Ain’t Nothin’ but a Pound Dog I had been looking for a dog to be my companion. I was only in second grade and I had never had a dog before. I thought getting a dog would be perfect because I would have a friend that I could play with and enjoy. Every weekend for months my parents would take my brother and I to a different dog breeder. We were looking for a pure bred shitzu. My mom ranted about how a shitzu would be the perfect dog for our family. We would get this little fluffy thing and we could carry it around and play with it and let it sleep at the foot of our bed. We waited anxiously in the back seat as my dad drove in silence down the highway. After what seemed like hours, we pulled into a dirt parking lot. There was a building in front of us and chain link fences all over. I didn’t know what to think of this place. It didn’t look like any of the breeders we had been to. My heart started racing because the last thing I wanted was to be in a room with a bunch of mean…show more content…
I sat on the floor and petted her for at least 5 minutes. My whole family fell in love with her right away. Her name was Whitney. My dad left to go get the woman from the front desk while the rest of us stayed behind to pet Whitney. When my dad came back he told us that we couldn’t adopt Whitney yet. The Humane Society was closing in 10 minutes, so they weren’t doing any more adoptions tonight. We would have to come back first thing in the morning to adopt Whitney. While I sat in bed that night I thought about bringing Whitney home. I thought about how scared I was to go into the dog pound based on my misconception that they were all mean and aggressive. I wish I could have brought home the basset hounds and the Jack Russell and the Great Dane too. All of these dogs were good dogs, which don’t have a home. I had changed my mind about the Humane Society, all because of this one visit. Have you ever had a misconception about something, and then been proven completely
