Personal Narrative: A Change In A Sorority

“In a sorority you will find your best friends and your bridesmaids’.” Sheri McGill, my friends’ mother and former sorority girl, once told me. The summer before freshmen year of college was crazy. Trying to fathom the idea that I was finally leaving high school seemed unreal. Until I realized that I had to fill out my recruitment information for rush and that I would soon be going through rush. Going through rush allows you to meet all of the sororities on a campus and allows you the opportunity to possible join or pledge a sorority. This year rush was the week before school started and also the week that Tropical Storm Fay decided to run through Orlando. It is the Sunday before rush formally begins. One thousand girls walk into the gymnasium of the Education building. You’re finally able to see your so-called “competition” and potential new sisters. The tension is rising as everyone sizes each other up and separates from their friends to find their Rho Gamma group. The tension then changes to awkwardness. You are sitting in a circle with a Rho Gamma named Honeysuckle or Go Getter because they are not able to tell you their real name. But along with your Rho Gamma are 16 other girls, just wanting to get to the houses and join a sorority. You find out all the crazy information…show more content…
If they didn’t impress us, we wouldn’t put them on our list and they wouldn’t have new members. As for the “rumors” or stereotypes of all the sororities’, I still don’t know if they are true. I try to think that they aren’t and I try to treat every girl in other sororities’ nicely but in the back of my mind the stereotype is running and I’m analyzing every little thing they do. The only thing I can do now as an official sister is try to mend the tears in the relationships with other Greek organizations and hopefully end the rumor mill and have one Greek community that is
