Paleo Diet Website Analysis

I have chosen to research the Paleo diet for my assessment to build on my knowledge and understanding of what the diet entails. I began my research by using four online sources, two informative websites and two social media platforms. Through my research I learnt that the Paleo diet is a way of eating based on how Paleolithic or "Caveman" ancestors ate. It’s premise is based on eating whole foods and excludes grains, legumes and some dairy amongst other things. I will be evaluating these sources based on my research, reflecting on how these social networks helped me learn by outlining the credibility and reliability of these sources. I chose this site as it provided me with a great insight of the Paleo diet and the information was very comprehensive detailing the diet in depth as well as highlighting a basic overview. This source provided me with related external links, which allowed me to build on this base further, directing me to other online sources. Through this I was able to evaluate this information for my assessment in order to give me greater understanding of the Paleo diet. In evaluating the quality of the information from this website, I used the checklist principle (Metzger 2007) as much as possible to determine which factors influence credibility. This website offered a lot of information from advice, inspirational stories as well as general information. There are many groups to join which allow users to communicate with one another discussing all aspects of the diet. Facebook in particular allowed me to learn using social constructivism, as discussion between users is imperative through the learning process of social activity. Informal language is used making it easy to understand and information can be shared quickly. Using Metzger’s suggested factors that influence credibility, I found this source allowed a high level of interaction socially between users although once again information provided is mostly personal opinion and not credible.
