The Pros and Cons of Social Networking Nowadays the internet provides us with a wide range of services, as not only does it constitute a source of information, but it is also an effective means of communication. As one of the tools that the net has to offer, social networks came to be known as online communities. When the time comes to use this tool, it can be perceived that there is both a positive and a negative side to social networking. To begin with, social networking presents a number of advantages for both internet users and companies. Firstly, these networks allow its users to get in touch with others. Through these networks, it is possible to talk to people all over the world. Furthermore, they have become an invaluable tool for families whose members live in different parts of the globe. Secondly, companies have also been benefited by social networks, since these communities constitute a good place for advertising. Thanks to social networks, businesses can set up their own accounts, what allows them to advertise new products or services, as well as offer promotions. Since these networks have become so popular, companies are now able to contact social network users in a more personal, direct, and efficient way to offer and sell their products. On the other hand, the use of social networks may cause a number of difficulties. One common problem that lay social network users have to deal with is the lack of privacy of those websites. Since it is quite difficult to change the privacy settings of each personal account, it is hard not to share personal information with strangers or undesirable people.
