There have been many great Canadian Prime Ministers in the past, of them William Lyon Mackenzie King became a legend. King was born on 1874 in Berlin, Ontario. King was well educated; he graduated from University of Toronto with his B.A and obtained his degree from Harvard in 1909. In 1919 King was chosen as the leader of the liberal party. King has been Prime Minister through 1921-1926, 1926-1930 and 1935-1948. King has been Canada’s longest Prime Minister; He has been Prime Minister for 22 years. William Lyon Mackenzie King has had the greatest impact on Canada’s growing autonomy since 1914. The King-Byng Affair of 1926 was a political moves used by Mackenzie King with Governor General Lord Julian Byng. A scandal about corruption in King’s minority government threatened King’s spot in office. King later asked Byng for a dissolution of government and to call another election. Byng denied King’s request, therefore King had no choice but to resigned. King reminded the Canadian citizens that the Prime minister’s demands were rejected by the representative of Britain. The Governor General was listening to the British rather than the Canadian citizens. King kept reminding people of the issue to distract the public’s mind from the scandal. King’s actions had again overthrown the British from controlling Canada. This time the King-Byng Affair stopped Britain from controlling the political affairs occurring in Canada. King again went out of his way to serve the nation increase Canada’s autonomy from Britain. The king-Byng affair was the final event that contributed to the Balfour Declaration.
