Outback Steakhouse May 10, 2011 Discuss how the employee selection methods at Outback Steakhouse help the organization achieve a competitive advantage. Outback has established itself as a reputable, moderately priced restaurant known for its quality of food, service, and image. A key factor in doing so is recognizing the type of employees that are motivated, have potential, can fit within the company, and can be positive contributors to the vision and overall mission of Outback Steakhouse. This hiring process aligns with the internal/cost HR strategy. When the focus is placed on an employee’s level of potential and motivation at entry level positions, Outback is able to bring on low cost employees that demonstrate the ability of growing with the company, understand the expectations of the job and why providing a high level of customer service and hospitality is important at any job level. This allows Outback to maintain a solid and dedicated pool of employees that contribute in generating profits for the company while keeping costs low at the staffing level.
