The Hermanson’s Guilty Verdict (Ramifications against Common Sense) LINC 7 week 3 | January 29, 2015 | page 61 | 387 words | Johnson (Byung Seon) | Suppose you have a Hyundai car. Whenever your car breaks down, do you fly to the Hyundai Motor Group in South Korea to fix? What nonsense! Amy Hermanson was a seven-year-old, and her parents had the responsibility which was to care for their daughter. However, her parents decided to try to heal the child with prayer rather than seek a doctor’s aid when she had diabetes because they were Christian Scientists. With their ramifications against common sense, Amy could not take any conventional treatments, and she died. In my opinion, I agree with the Hermanson’s guilty verdict because they denied the child medical care which was the most essential common sense, for just their religious reasons such as Christian Science. Last year, there was the worst sinking disaster in South Korea, and the accident was also caused by the people who had no common sense. First, the shipping company illegally renovated the ship to accommodate more passengers and cargo. Second, the captain and crew, who had to work for the safety of the passengers, abandoned the ship after they had instructed the passengers to stay in their cabins. They were even the first people to be rescued. Most people believed that many passengers could have lived if the captain and crews had appropriately dealt with the accident. As the result of the accident by the lack of common sense, 495 passengers died. As Amy’s parent lost their judgment by the specific doctrine of Christian Science, they were not able to judge for what was right and wrong. In the end, they committed the crime which could not realize what they did. I really hope that the crime against common sense does not occur anymore.
