On March 27th 1997 the movie Selena was released. It was directed by Gregory Nava and starred Jennifer Lopez as Selena. It is a popular movie and has helped make a whole new generation of fans aware of who Selena was and what she accomplished in her life. On April 12, 1995, two weeks after her death, George W. Bush, governor of Texas at the time, declared her birthday "Selena Day" in Texas. Today, nearly 15 years after her death, Selena’s legacy lives on.
Every year on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the members of Kappa Kappa Gamma, of Whitman College in Washington, host the Annual Dr. Seuss Day festival (Diaz). Over 300 people show up every year for this huge festival, and even if they do not go, Dr. Seuss Day is still celebrated all over America
It has many appetizers to choose from eleven to be exact. Starting at $3.99 for chips and homemade queso to $7.99 for their ultimate nachos which includes most of their toppings. They also offer many chicken salads starting at $6.99 and soups at prices starting at $3.49. As for their main dishes they have many to choose from including seven different dishes with fish in them and seven other with chicken. They also have steaks, ribs, sandwiches, and you can’t forget the burgers.
One of them that they are known for was the largest rock festival ever the wood stock festival, on the weekend of august 15th -17th in 1969 in upstate New York. There was an estimated 450,000 people that attended the event according to the rock hall of fame. The festival was scheduled to end with The Jimi Hendrix Experience performance on the 16th but was delayed, fans waited all night for Jimi to take the stage. Finally at 7:30 in morning The Jimi Hendrix Experience takes the stage wowing their fans with an hour of play time. Jimi Hendrix’s version of the “Star Spangled Banner” became the highlight of the festival.
The Gathering of Nations is one of the largest Pow-wows in the United States. It is held annually the fourth weekend in April, in New Mexico. Over 500 tribes from around the United States and Canada participate. This event is competitive with 32 dance categories, as well as other competitions for singers and drumming, and a pageant for Miss Indian World. The ‘Thanks for the Memories’ exhibit is a memorabilia celebrating the last fifteen years, and fifty-three exhibits. ‘Thanks for the Memories’ begins with photos and illustrations of Maas Brothers and moves into the “blockbuster” exhibitions, and even the Cuban Missile Crisis. The most popular exhibit for the Florida International Museum was the Titanic exhibit in 1997 with an attendance of 830,019 people during its six-month existence at the museum. The Titanic exhibit wasn’t only the Florida International Museum’s most highly attended exhibit but it was the most highly attended exhibit in the United States for the proceeding three years. I remember taking a field trip to visit the Titanic exhibit while I was in elementary school.
