Woodstock Through the Eyes of America

Towards the end of the summer of 1969 the biggest rock festival ever put on was in middle of what was then described as a disaster area by the state of New York. 400,000 kids flocked to a small town in upstate New York, which normally hovered around 3,900 people, for a movement like nothing that’s ever been seen before. A young woman described the events that unfolded through the early part of the festival as:
“Roads were backed up for as long as 8 hours, there was no gas in the gas stations, kids couldn’t leave even if they wanted to. It’s been declared a disaster area, they’re going to try to evacuate the area, but…show more content…
