Phillip Anderson Historical Methods Research Paper 6 May 2012 Woodstock Through the Eyes of America Towards the end of the summer of 1969 the biggest rock festival ever put on was in middle of what was then described as a disaster area by the state of New York. 400,000 kids flocked to a small town in upstate New York, which normally hovered around 3,900 people, for a movement like nothing that’s ever been seen before. A young woman described the events that unfolded through the early part of the festival as: “Roads were backed up for as long as 8 hours, there was no gas in the gas stations, kids couldn’t leave even if they wanted to.
