New Forms of Advertising New forms of advertising are emerging and they are overtaking traditional media like television, news papers, magazines, and the good-old Yellow Pages, because of a shift towards emerging technology and the internet. Companies are experimenting and taking monetary risks to reach customers. New methods such as web-based advertising, social media advertising and mobile advertising are the emerging methods of effectively reaching customers. Standard television commercials are no longer sufficient for companies to advertise. More brands are relying on product placement in shows and movies rather than commercials. Technological advances such as digital video recording devices allow people to fast forward through television shows, avoiding commercials. We also see more advertising on the internet through pop-up ads and advertising in websites, most of which we would not have seen a few years ago. Most often it is quicker to “Google it” to find a telephone number of a restaurant you would like to try for dinner rather than take the time to find the Yellow Pages and look-up the number. Print directory books are expensive and becoming a less likely used resource. Web-based advertising Web-based advertising prices dependents on the "relevance" of the surrounding web content and the traffic that a website receives. With the many advances that we experience everyday, society can be ever-changing. A big advance that has changed our lives is the new forms of advertising. So much more is possible and accessible to us because of the constant advances in technology. These advances that occur everyday can have a tremendous impact on industries and businesses as people continuously try to find ways to adapt their practices to embrace and utilize these new advances.
