Negative Impact of the Internet on Society As we all know the Internet has had a great impact on our society, and in a way has made our lives easier. We are able to email, instant message, access a library, blog, buy airline tickets, and much more without having to leave our chairs. However many people overlook the harm and dangers that they are being exposed to when using the Internet. Many people probably will not realize its dangers until they confront a risky situation. As a result, of information and freedom, the Internet has become an unbreakable addiction for individuals and society. Consequently, the Internet has become to many an everyday task. An estimated one hundred forty seven million people worldwide accessed the internet at least once a week from their businesses and homes. (Elliot 2008) Among this number of people, there are children and adolescents. They are increasingly becoming more involved in this modern technology, therefore, increasing their chances of exposure to adult matter.…show more content…
They are vulnerable to crimes like child grooming and cyber-stalking. In fact, statistics from the “Crimes Against Children Research Center” at the University of New Hampshire, states that one in five children have received a sexual approach or solicitations over the internet in the past year. A statistic that is quite alarming. That is what happens when we use the Internet. As a result, the Internet cuts out the social interactions of our lives. With the Internet doing so many jobs for us, we have become lazy and non-social. We often ask questions like why go shopping when the Internet can deliver the products to your door or why go the library to research when you can do the same online. We may lose out on being social, but we save a lot of time. However, we spent the time we saved by using the Internet some more. We are easily distracted and side-tracked when
