My Naval Career Losing my job at Coca-Cola was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. In need of a job right away, I started working at a gas station. This is where I eventually met my Navy recruiter. The first time Alex asked if I wanted to join the Navy to excel my life I laughed in his face. Later that night, I thought about it more and it actually was the best thing for me. A couple weeks later I ran into Alex again and set up my appointment. Behind my parents back, I joined the "finest Navy" in the world. Boot camp started out kind of rough and it was a real eye opener. I struggled on the testing portions because I learn better hands on. My grades began to improve once I was shown some tough love and was punished for my low grades in class. Punishment consisted of push-ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks to start with. I think the instructors liked watching us in pain and making the walls literally sweat. I found that boot camp made me grow up and finally become an adult. Eight weeks of discipline along with cramming knowledge all paid off at the end. Final review was the most proud moment of not only me, but my parents were there in the stands overjoyed as well. After boot camp ended, I was flown to Pensacola, Florida for my "A" school. Aviation Electrician school is where I would learn the basic knowledge of troubleshooting. Going to school five days a week for six months was actually stressful. Every week or two weeks there was an exam for the chapter we had just learned. Failing a test here was not an option, unless you would like to be held back a week. If a student failed more than once, they could be sent to the fleet as an undesignated seaman. I am grateful for passing all of my exams. The last month of school is probably the most exciting part of class because this is where you pick your first duty station. There were two sets of
