The nurse must execute this process through selection, performance, management and evaluation of nursing actions. The nurse is responsible for assessing the health status of the patients. The RN is a provider for health counseling and teaching patients. The nurse is responsible for administering medications, treatments, and other health regimens that are ordered by a licensed provider. With the practice of the scope of RN, there are also standards that every RN needs to follow.
As to where an RN can work in a wider variety of settings, from doctors’ offices, to nursing homes and care facilities. RNs can also use their training to choose a certain area of medical specialties like cardiovascular, labor and delivery and many others. Being an RN involves a bit more hands-on work with the patients. In an office setting an RN will assist the doctor by taking detailed descriptions of symptoms from patients, as well as keeping medical histories up to date. In long-term care facilities primary duties would generally be a floor nurse, and any aspects that go along with it. Including some leadership skills, as some assistive personnel will need the skills and leadership provided by the licensed practical nurse. The roles and duties of the licensed practical nurse are very similar no matter whether working in the acute care hospital setting, are the long term care facility such as a nursing home. There are possibilities of licensed practical nurses to develop leadership roles and perform them in the hospital setting. In these cases such a role would be greatly defendant on the work environment in specific settings.
