Ethical Decision Making- Multi Cultural Issues Angela Lippy BSHS/335 October 6, 2014 Jenny Coon Ethical Decision Making - Multi Cultural Video Ethical Decision Making when discussing Multi-cultural issues can be at times a touchy situation. Throughout this paper I will discuss issues on the topic of the video Ethical Decision Making-Multi Cultural Issues (Mutely Cultural Issues, 2014) give my own general reaction and thoughts as well a response to how I can make myself a better human service professional. Finally I will also point out ways we can learn about an individual’s culture. Watching the video on the ethical decision making was an eye opener into situations that can arise in today’s world being a human service professional. At first my reaction to the client was almost offensive. I could not understand why the client would be asking so many personal questions regarding age, culture and experience of the human service provider. Throughout the course of the video however it did begin to make sense as to why these questions might be necessary. Our clients need to be comfortable with us from the very first visit, I believe they do have the right to ask questions regarding our age and how long we have been a part of this profession as well as to ask if we understand any cultural differences that may be between client and helper. However I do not believe this should be an ongoing issue with each appointment. I do believe that our own personal culture, life experiences, attitudes, values and biases are important in being a human service professional, but I do not feel that it should reflect on our client. We as a professional need to be open minded as to what the client is bringing to the room in regards to their own values, cultures and opinions and not be biased to any of the topics.
