For one student in The Freedom Writers Diaries, their hero was Meip Gies. Many know her from The Diary of Anne Frank as the woman who helped Anne and her family hide. This particular student was in absolute awe at her bravery, and finally got the chance to tell her so when Meip personally came and spoke to the whole class. She was very humble about being told this, but turned around and said to the class: she was no hero. In fact, they were the heroes with everything they had done to change their lives, and the lives of those around them.
Nobody knew she had been bullied until after her death because she hid her emotions and we never noticed, she bore them on her soul, for no one to see. She was constantly knocked down yet she constantly got back up, until one day she had no more energy to get back up again, so she let go. I’ve tried keep a similar story line in the performance to honor her. I believe the mood and tension is extremely important to the piece because it is what shows the audience how the actor is feeling and the atmosphere and emotions of the scene. There for it is effecting the audience on how they should feel and think about the scene, it also helps shows the building up and climax of the piece.
When Wofford started school she went to an integrated school. She started already being able to read, and often was called upon to help other African American students with reading apprehensions. In her first grade class, she was the only African American student in the class that could read. Wofford’s parents stressed that their children receive a good education and she exceled in her studies. As a teen she worked at the local Lorain Public Library, as a helper.
And I now was going to middle school where things hadn’t quite changed , as bullies kept getting the best of me but during those times , my mother said something to me that I will always remember , “If you don’t know them personally , don’t take it personal.” , these words made me disregard all those harsh words. I was picked on but It didn’t happen to me until I was in middle school. I had great experience and memories from elementary school more than I did in any other grade I was in. During my elementary school years I can remember it as it was yesterday, I lived in South Carolina and went to Claude A. Taylor my kindergarten teacher Mrs. McClendon & Mrs. Goodwin would have paper, pencils, markers and more for me to color and draw until everyone got to class because I was always early to class. The resident my grandmother spent the most time with was a woman wheel chair bound with cerebral palsy named Nancy. My sixth grade year was amazing. I got the most amazing teachers. My teachers were Mrs. Mabe and Mrs. Davis. They always helped me when I didn't understand but even when they tried to help me and I didnt get it they gave me a lot of examples and made me do them myself. They never let us fail.
For example, in my case, when I was child I was the darling of my mother because I always got good grades in school, my mother said that my sisters should be like me because I was doing my homework on time and was very studious. Also, I always told my mom everything about me she was my best friend in my childhood. This caused that my sisters were always jealous of me, and when I was played with my sisters they always refused to play with me. Its situation made me feel lonely and sad. I was to look other little friend to play with me but I was sad because I wanted my sisters love me as I wanted them.
Since money has obviously never been the reason people become teachers, the rewards for me became evident as I spent seven years teaching a variety of ages at a day care center. It is the gratification I receive when I see children become stronger because of my efforts. It is the satisfaction of being able to help others learn things about the world that they never imagined existed.
