Maybe you have a PPO plan with Aetna but aren’t sure what the PPO meant? These are managed care plans. Managed care is used in our nation to describe a variety of techniques intended to reduce the cost of providing health benefits and improve the quality of care. By reducing the cost of healthcare benefits us all. I think this is the most important reason for a managed care organization (MCO). If we can cut cost in healthcare we benefit everybody. From the doctors who are able to maintain their salaries and benefits, to the cost of services for patients to the reduction in insurance costs, etc. As healthcare costs rises we need to find ways to explore our options to help reduce prices so we can afford to be treated to help save lives and live a longer more satisfying health live. Since the emergence of the managed care plans is helps providers keep set prices in their services so they cannot take advantage of charging off the wall prices. Managed care plans enable the doctors the freedom of taking advantage of patients and what they spend on care. Being in network the insurance and provider agree on an allowed amount helping reduce cost and at the same time allowing the doctors to earn what they deserve, it’s a happy medium for everyone including the patients. As a patient making sure the provider is in network with one of these managed care plan is the responsibility of the patient to take advantage of these low healthcare costs.
