Low Visibility The easy in a broken relationship, is to disappear away and become invisible. But is it, the right thing to do? Can another human being really break down one's identity? And why even under the spectacle of other people? In the short story ‘’Low Visibility’’, written by Maggie Murphy in 2008, we follow a person who undergoes an identity crisis A third person narrator tells us the story about Laura and John who are married. The short story starts in medias res with a description of Laura and Johns’ marriage ‘’John is watching TV, one hand on the remote control, the other on her thigh. She keeps very still’’ (p. 1 ll. 1 -2). With this quote, it is already clear the John has the control, and that Laura just accept it. The narrator is a limited narrator, and the viewing angle is Laura’s, the reader’s knowledge of the events that take place, is limited to Laura’s description of them. As mention before, is Laura suppressed by her husband. During their marriage, Laura has changed. A flashback from when the couple met reveals that she used to be a joyful and funny person, until she met John. When she met John, was he unhappy, but her joy never affected him, as it was supposed to. Instead, he squeezed all happiness out of her, by being violent and dominant. Laura feels that her husband choked her happiness, by holding her hostage: ‘’So he held her too tight, his hostage and his shield, squeezing the joy out of her until there was none left’’ (p.1 ll. 23-24). Because her husband is so dominant, Laura became a nervous and quiet person. ‘’She doesn’t know the right thing to say, because he changes the rules each time’’ (p.2 ll. 42-44) - She does not how she should act in various situations, she dare not respond, since he makes it almost impossible for her to answer it right. She is not only suppressed psychical, but also physical. Her husband John beats her,
