A person may perceive a certain image of what God is, like a trinket or something they have seen that reminds them of God. Then they start to pray to that every time instead of praying to God. This is a point he is trying to make by saying that it is still a major sin but that sometimes we don’t notice the smaller things as being bad. This book teaches a lot about the nature of God. Screwtape has a hard time believing that God actually cares for His people, unlike, “Their Father Below”.
God yearns for a relationship with us as well. He also desires for us to be meeting together. Small groups are just as much about what is important for us, as it is what is important to God.
Whither I realize it or not people are always watching me. So how do I want them to remember me? So I’ve been trying to set a good example so that I wont have to tell people my beliefs, but that they can see it through my actions. His trust in God amazes me. It makes me want to get in the word and commit like him.
I have learned from the movie that personal debt can lead to an ethical compromise. I feel that my finances are under control right now, because of the reasons I stated above. I know that my ethics are under control, because I have internalized them and pray to God every day to make me more like Jesus. I know that I have strong people in my life, besides family, to help me to make better decisions. The factors that I cannot control are the health of my parents, the actions of my brothers, or the actions of my sister.
Effective missionaries are lifelong learners of culture, working to understand where their people currently are so they can lead them to a true, yet truly enculturated, understanding of the grace and truth of Jesus Christ. They understand that the core of the Good News can come wrapped in different packages and expressions. That is all to say, this book by Reggie McNeal resonates with my passion for people with a missional faith. That we should be more missional. To survive as a church in this modern western world, we need a huge paradigm shift of being missional.
