Legal Drinking Age I strongly feel that one large scale law we should change is the legal drinking age. The state law is that you must be 21 or older to consume alcohol legally. Although you are not allowed to consume alcohol until age 21, you can serve at a restaurant or act as a bartender at age 18 and work in a liquor store at age 16. Vermont is considering minimizing the legal drinking age to 18. The governor agree on a lot of the points people are bringing to the Vermont government. However, the federal government threatens to deny the state nearly $10 million dollars if the law is changed. Since the drinking age is 21, kids of all ages under 21 are forced to sneak about with their alcohol if they wish to consume it. This leads to unsupervised parties, which leads to drinking games, and accidents from drinking. Teenagers know they would be in tremendous trouble if they were caught with alcohol with their parents/guardians and the law so they throw parties at camps or fields. These camps and/or fields are in the middle of know where that way nobody can find them. These parties include binge drinking, drinking games and poor decisions. These games and poor decisions can end in horrible cases. Also having to be 21 makes it so people can’t go out in public and drink. In places like restaurants and bars there are people that are sober to help you make the right decisions like not driving, or hurting someone else. These places save a lot of loves just by supervising everyone. First, it is largely ineffective. Second, it would decrease unsafe drinking activities. Finally, you are an adult at 18. A lot of people would agree with me on making the legal drinking age lower (mainly teenagers) but I also know there are a lot of people that disagree with me. Many people see 18 year olds as irresponsible, immature kids but not every teenager is. Not all teenagers want to get drunk every night. Some just want to have a glass of wine or a cold beer at the end of a long day. I feel that this law should be changed for the people that will not abuse the power and let the ones that will pay the consequences of their
