Adopting Augustine’s idea of ‘evil’, we are to say that he is not living up to standards expected of human beings. Privation may also concern itself with things not concerned with morality, such as natural evil. For example, a person may have eyesight that falls shorts of perfect eyesight – his eyesight is therefore ‘evil’. This way, God’s omnipotence is justified because evil is defined as an absence of certain qualities. Hence, it doesn’t exist.
So, I should argue that Jacoby uses too many his own feelings about the dissatisfaction of imprisonment, which makes his claim weak and not credible. For instance, Jacoby states that “the criminal is out of control.” Yes, it might be a strong and persuasive way to get reader’s attention or even agreement, but it is not impersonal, and it is the claim based on his complaint, dissatisfaction and anger. It is inappropriate that reader can only feel his anger and dissatisfaction about the imprisonment. After all, Jacoby thinks “the criminal is out of control” is not a well-known fact. If
So, oppressed people can not win the respect of oppressor. He believes in this way the oppressed become as evil as the oppressor because acquiescence is the easier way to encounter oppression, also it is not the moral way. In Dr. King’s opinion, the second way is resorting to physical violence and corroding hatred. He believes violence not only brings impermanent results, but also is impractical and immoral. According to King, it is impractical because it slows the process of ending the oppression for all, and it is immoral because it seeks humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding.
In Ken Stier’s article, “Getting the Juvenile-Justice System to Grow Up”, in Time Magazine, he confirms that every year, some 200,000 youths are tried, sentenced or incarcerated as adults. I agree with Stier’s theory about juveniles having a greater possibility of changing their lives around without serious punishment, there are certain crimes where anyone at any age should be tried as an adult. These crimes are 1st degree murder, 2nd degree murder, rape and kidnapping. Juveniles need to be able to learn their lesson in a big way so they do not think that they can get away with something then commit the same crime later and expect the same the same punishment. If they don’t then the crime percentage will continue to grow and more teens will be getting away with these types of crimes because they did not have to face any serious
What is also unusual about this beginning sentence, is that Staples describes himself as an offender, even though he is the one being stereotyped. An interesting thing that he does in the second paragraph, is tell us how he thinks that being perceived dangerous by others, can be dangerous to him. "And I soon gathered that being perceived as dangerous is a hazard in itself" (Staples 314). Usually we wouldn't think that a person who is seen as threatening to others, would be in danger themselves. We would think of this person as sort of, untouchable, but Staples explains why he sees it this way.

‘Ritual listening’ is one trap to avoid which is basically just fake listening because the real purpose is to tune out until it is your turn to talk. The ‘Perry Mason’ trap hides an accusation or statement with a question. ‘Why?’ is a similar trap which is also a form of an accusation. The ‘Not?’ question is not truly a question but a way to add your own insight into something. ‘I understand’ is another way to kill communication especially when this statement is made during a conversation surrounding a sensitive topic like death, illness, etc… The last noted trap is ‘Yes, but’ and this is more argumentative than anything.
It is human nature to deem the unnatural and irregular as immoral, as articulated in the declaration, “Humans use language, their visual and verbal constructions of reality, to name or image the human and the nonhuman and thus to fix the boundaries between us and them” (Mellor 124). Through continually demoralizing the creature by considering him evil, the characters in the novel ultimately cause the creature to behave monstrously. The reader never essentially gets to meet the creature, but the reader formulates an impression of the creature in his/her head, centered on the creature’s physical descriptions, and by reading about the creatures environment, and by the circumstances under which the readers get acquainted with the
La’Toyrious Granville Mrs. Sharon Cargill English 12 20 February 2013 Racial Profiling Racial Profiling is mentally segregating and it disunites the U.S.A because it permits negative aspects to every race. In the U.S. it is acceptable to embrace foundations and establishments like BET, Black Entertainment Television, and/or The Chinese District, For example, but what if these titles were revised to WET, White Entertainment Television or The Iraqi District? Would these organizations be appropriate or racially disgraceful? From any standpoint it is mental segregation. Programs like the previously listed instills the negative trait of racial profiling into child before he or she has any idea of what racial profiling is, it programs them to judge and make race a chief factor when it should not be (Psycho 1).
Although steroids may improve performance, they will continue to harm athletes and ruin sports as we know it if restrictions are not more strictly enforced. Anabolic steroids are being abused in many different ways such as orally, injection, or by a gel or cream in order to improve athletes’ performances. In today’s society, professional athletes are using anabolic steroids to gain an advantage against their opponents, and the young children that idolize them are in turn also abusing steroids. What all these athletes do not understand is the harm that abusing steroids are doing to them. I feel that people need to stop abusing steroids because it not only hurts you hormonally, but it will also hurt their musculoskeletal and cardiovascular system,
