Israel Moreno July 18, 2011 English 1301.01 Persuasive Essay The Land of Opportunity? America is known as the land of dreams, or is it? First of all, America was built on immigrants, so why the controversy with immigrants now? Some opponents say that undocumented citizens are only stealing American jobs or that the taxpayer is spending too much money on welfare and food stamps on illegals. On the contrary, this is actually over emphasized. Immigrants do not steal jobs, but work on larger scale jobs that middle or high class Americans are less likely to do. Illegal immigrants do not harm America because they come to the land of dreams in search for better lifestyles, are part of an economic relationship with the US because of the lower wages they are paid to do, and are, generally, law abiding people. First, undocumented illegals come to America, also known as the Land of Opportunity, in search of a better lifestyle and improve their quality of life. These people are looking for chances of advancement. These people have left their homes and families to travel to an entirely different world in hopes that they can find a decent job. Living in a horribly hostile environment in a third world country and the illegal immigrant is aware that his/her neighbor or friend traveled to the US and was able to send money back home to their families and be a hero in their eyes, wouldn’t you chase the same dream? That is the American Dream. After all, America was built on immigrants and every single race created our culture we have today. In addition, America can use new and fresh ideas from the foreign world. Equally important, illegal immigrants are part of an economic mutual relationship with the US because of the lower wages they are paid for their work; there is a both supply and demand for this, but the demand side of the equation is something the public fails to
