Caesar: Selfish Dictator? | Ashley Bonneau | Professor JerniganHistory 1216/24/12 | In Ancient Rome there was a great man of whose name was Julius Caesar. This man was instrumental in the development of many things in Ancient Rome. Many that the modern world uses are modified from what he developed so long ago. Caesar was the first to develop a form of calendar in which is still used in modern society. He was a fearless and influential leader in times of war; some of his battle tactics are still used in the modern military. Lastly, but not the least was Caesar’s development of government in which many modern governments are modeled after today. During his imprisonment with the pirates Caesar would write poetry and read his poems to the pirates and if they did not appreciate his artistry he, “…laughed at them and called them illiterate barbarians and threatened to string them all up.” Even in this early stage of his career he was seen by other non-Romans as cruel and holding a complex. As his career became more mature he was known to be feared, hated, and mocked by his own fellow Romans. The citizens of Rome were so displeased with the conditions of society they cried out openly and in seclusion for defenders of liberty. Caesar was so outrageous and selfish for power he used any tick possible to accumulate money. (Insert class test). He was seen as having no ethics or honor as quoted from (class text) In a letter from Cicero to a Friend about Caesar.
