It is important to understand people by applying specific theories related to reinforcement, teamwork, why employees fail at their job and motivation. General Managers have the ability to reward those employees who are exceptional in their position.
What would be your overall aims when counselling an underperforming employee? Describe the steps you would work through to achieve these objectives. The overall aim when counselling an underperforming employee is to restore job performance to a satisfactory level by identifying the unsatisfactory behaviours, mutually establishing goals for improvement, and seeking agreement from the employee on suitable action to overcome those problems. Counselling will occur either because your staff member approaches you to seek help, or because you approach the staff member due to problems you have noticed in his or her work performance. As soon as you have identified that an employee is under-performing, do not wait for things to go from bad to worse.
Describe at least two ways of improving your performance at work. Where relevant, illustrate your answer with specific examples from your own experience. - Learning from the observations of others: Managers hey may point out areas in which an employee can improve their performance. If the feedback is constructive and fair, the employee can take it on board and try to improve their performance. - Learning from performance review: The appraisal process is about taking a systematic look at what the employee does in their job.

Many employers now evaluate the applicant’s credit report, although it does the employer no good knowing what companies you have or have not paid it tells them a whole lot about how responsible the person is; which is one of the most essential skills needed to be successful in today’s workforce. In my opinion, the most ideal employee will have the skills of being punctual, honest, responsible, kind, being able to work well with others, and being willing to further their education. They will also have the knowledge of knowing when to use their resources and where to find the information needed, and to not be fearful of the consequences when they make a mistake and being honest enough to verbalize it. The skill of being punctual speaks for itself when working any job it is important that you are clocked in and ready to work when you shift starts. Not only because you have a job of which, is organized based on your scheduled hours, but also for the respect of your co- workers.
It is important to be able to penetrate any barriers that the employee may have as a defense mechanism. Studies have shown that good supervision is associated with job satisfaction, commitment to the organisation, staff retention and employees’ perceptions of the support they receive from their employers (Carpenter et al 2012). In addition, employer’s need a forum where the quality of practice can be scrutinised, staff’s development needs explored and workers given the opportunity to: * Explore the emotional impact of the work. * Manage anxiety. * Consider how their own biases and beliefs may be affecting practice. * Reflect on the dynamic of the interaction between themselves and those using services.
This was developed to explain how the behavior of a leader influences the satisfaction and performance of subordinates (Robbins & Judges, 2011, p. 228). This is a very interesting theory because I do feel that there is a strong relation to how leaders treat subordinates and how satisfied they are. If an employee is treated in a negative manner by his or her leader this can cause that employee to feel very unsatisfied. If a leader treats the employee positively then the employee may be satisfied. It is important to seek the highest level of satisfaction for employees so that their work is not affected and the work atmosphere remains
