The performance of Jim Carrey was outstanding as the introverted withdrawn Joel; One of his best performances so far. Kate Winslet pulled it off beautifully, as always, as the impulsive, vibrant, and outgoing Clementine and her personality was emphasized by her constantly-changing bright hair color. But I think it’s a bit of a cliché for an introverted shy withdrawn guy to fall in love with an impulsive outgoing girl and for her to get him out of his bubble. The movie is a bit complicated and confusing when you see it for the first time because of the non-chronological (non-linear) order of the story but I think it serves the story very well. It emphasizes Joel’s state of mind and his confusion, struggling, and fear.
300 might not be historically accurate, but a lot of special effects were added to this movie in purpose of adding a flavor to the screen and to keep the viewers of the movie entertained. The fight scenes are far from what you may call “historically accurate,” but that was Zack Snyder’s intention. 300 This movie will always be remembered, 300 is always going to have an important role in the history of cinematography right next to movies like Casablanca. I absolutely love the movie 300, a lot of film schools take advantage of the great methods that were used to make this movie and use them to teach their students about films. You can count on film schools using 300 as a means to teach film students for many years to come.
Sun bingo advert - English rant I was thinking, what makes me hate adverts so much? Is it their annoyingness? Is it their stupidity? Or is it their not-so-funny humour? Adverts are something that everyone wants to escape from which is why I adore the BBC; I can watch a movie without having to listen to annoying jingles in between that make me forget what happened in the movie before the break.
On the one hand, many argue that “humor is the only truthful way to show the truth” (Freda Freiberg, 2007). On the other hand, others felt that “any fictional treatment was inappropriate because fiction- whether popular entertainment or high art- smacks of falsity. While the Holocaust was too real, thus, they believed its reality could only be conveyed by factual documentation and testimony” (Freiberg, 2007). Even though it is a funny movie, Chaplin uses humor as a vehicle to delve into a serious subject. Although using humor might be considered scandalous to some critiques, everyone can admit that Chaplin made a remarkable film based on his famous sense of humor.
Because of technology being so significant, we tend to use as much of it as possible in movies, or adding as many special effects and unique graphics. For instance, now in theatres, 3-D movies are the new trend, they keep the audience engaged with the movie. As for movies in the mid 1900’s, technology was not so varied, so the movies had no choice but to be basic. Currently, Movies in the 21st century are filled with adult (sexually explicit) content, profanity, and even blood and gore. Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds”, portray an unnoticed view of these elements.
Casablanca and Citizen Kane, two films that are completely different, yet both have something in common; they are both considered to be the greatest movie ever made. Unfortunately only one can hold the title. Casablanca is considered a timeless classic and holds great entertainment value. Citizen Kane on the other hand, is known for its achievements, bringing sophistication and innovative techniques to the cinema. One must ask oneself, what is more important to the average moviegoer, watching a movie for their enjoyment or for its achievements?
It is the classic tale of “you want what you can’t have”. I love that the movie has a romance among the mystery but it’s bothersome to see such a wonderful woman throw herself helplessly at someone who is blind to what he has. It almost makes you hate Jefferies a little, from a girl’s perspective
comClaudia Segal 12/3/11 Film Comparison Paper on “Casablanca” and “From Here to Eternity” Movies like The Notebook always leave the audience with a good feeling, knowing that the two main characters in love end up together after all the complications, leaving the viewers at ease because finally they get to see exactly what they wanted. One thing that I specifically loved about both films is that your mind is so set on an ending that you completely expect to happen, and then it just doesn’t happen. Yes, it does surprise and shock you and maybe you would have wished for another ending, but personally I rather see something different and unexpected than the norm. There is a frustrated love that takes place in both films. In Casablanca, Rick meets the love of his life, the only woman that he had really fallen in love with, they plan to escape together and literally last minute he finds out that she will not meet with him.
Some say it has changed for the worst; that it is a bad influence on others choices, whereas others say it still has the same typical concept. They fail to realize that reality television is simply just a documentary of people’s lives. Whether they choose to take each other’s heads off or make love to their best friends’ boyfriend, it will not have a negative effect on people’s life decisions or choices. When people think about Reality TV they begin to picture a group of people arguing and punching each other out simply because that is what reality TV has become today. For some reason the bickering and fighting on these shows tends to attract a large audience.
A Theater for the Elderly Many senior citizens love watching movies but cannot find the right movie theatre that suits them. These days, movie theatres are directed at teenagers and families with younger children, with hardly any theatres focused on attracting the senior citizen population. Two theatres that are constantly in competition for business are Phoenix Theatres and AMC 20. Both theatres are overall very successful, but Phoenix Theatres offers a better theatre for the elderly customers than AMC 20 does. Phoenix Theatres offers the perfect atmosphere for senior citizens.
