Nowadays people have become increasingly more dependent on the internet for most of their information and other media activities. Ever since the internet has been around, the downloading of digital media content has become more relevant to anybody and everybody who owns a pc or an internet device. Now that digital media content has become much more widely available now more than ever huge conglomerate companies and their customers are arguing weather internet piracy is a blessing or a curse to mankind? In this day and age, more and more companies are joining forces together in groups such as SOPA and PIPA in order to legislatively ban all types of illegal piracy, and also shut down websites that encourage it. Not only do I think that these attacks against piracy are futile, but I also think they are stupid, because I actually believe that internet piracy is a blessing to mankind. Internet piracy provides digital content to many of those who are under privileged or less fortunate. When it comes to the majority of people who are either unemployed or near poverty, having a way to download various forms of media content for free provides many people that are less fortunate a new outlet in which to play, watch, listen, learn, and enjoy content in which they were previously unable to. There are many instances in history were a new invention or innovation is created by a financially challenged person who had the drive, passion, and will power to create something new by merely using some pirated software that they had found online for free in which they could not afford to purchase otherwise. I’ve also actually seen many cases were some students couldn’t afford the book that they needed for a class, so they looked online for it, and eventually were able to find the digital version of the book they need for free.
