Definition of Introduction Speech -An Introduction speech is an opener written to introduce the speaker and the subject they will be talking about. It is helpful to provide the audience with details of the speaker's background and achievements in order to establish the speaker’s credibility with respect to the topic. The Main Elements to Writing an Introduction Speech •Brevity - Less than 2 minutes. Leave the 'limelight' for the speaker - Introductions speeches are usually brief and always prepared. •The Introduction - Formal introductions to establish the speaker's credibility •Express gratitude to the speaker on behalf of the organizers and the audience, for accepting the invitation to speak •Conveying respect - Make the audience receptive to the speaker The Structure and Outline of an Introduction Speech • Your Opener - the opening, ice-breaker or attention grabber - The introduction of the informative speech should contain an attention-grabber, followed by a statement about your topic. It should end with a strong transition into your body section. • Introduction - Who the speaker is, what is their background and their achievements * If you know the person you're introducing, it certainly makes it easier to prepare your remarks. Just be mindful of the context of both your relationship to the speaker and the context of the event itself. Don't be casual when it's a formal event. *If you don't know the speaker, you may conduct some research to get a basic understanding of their life and work relevant to the subject about which they're speaking.
