Explain the importance of continually improving knowledge and practice. As a professional, I have a responsibility to engage in continuous professional development. This means taking action to keep my skills and knowledge up to date and seeking to improve my capabilities across the range of tasks I carry out daily. Continually improving my knowledge is essential to my role and ensures that I have the skills and knowledge needed to create the best for the organisation that I work for. I need to be aware of the most up to date legislations and guidelines, and the welfare requirements.

By establishing a learning environment the organisation is better prepared to conduct business, retain staff and ensure the organisational goals are met. The creation of the learning environment is cyclic in nature and results in a better trained, more competent workforce. Maximum participation can be achieved by ensuring that the employees affected by the training are involved in some manner in the decision to provide training. This may be in the design or development of the training or simply running a skills audit on the individual or team to determine what training is required and if the proposed training is directly related to the needs of the individual, team or organisation. However some barriers may need to be overcome such as reluctance to change or urgency of tasks.
Continual professional development is a process of life-long learning that meets the needs of clients and enables care workers to expand and fulfil their potential. It is important to continually improve your knowledge and practice in order to remain aware and keep updated regards current guidelines, legislations and standards relative to your practice. As manager it is your role and responsibility to ensure staff are kept up to date with and legislation, standards and guideline changes. The goverment are focusing on post 16 options because they want to increase the quality of education available and ensure that all young people have the tools and opportunities they need to fulfil their potential so they are prepared for further education and work regardles of their background or life circumstances. By giving young people the options to undertake academic and vocational education including appreniteships and traineeships they are providing the skills need for life and work helping to create a more responsible, engaged and cohesive society. The post 16 options set out by the government are: •College •Sixth form •Apprenticeships •Employment with training One of the reasons for this change has been because of the governments concerns over the number of 16-24 year olds who have been classified as Neets. We also feel that we can improve quality as well. Continuous improvement is based on the Deming model of Plan, Do, Check, Act. The hard part is planning, because that is where we must recognize an opportunity to improve the product. Remember, however, that we have good people, human resources is our strength.
