Antigone claims that Creon’s power to make laws should only apply to those of the living, his power should cease with regards to those of the dead. Antigone’s believes that one’s life in the underworld should be joyous because it is eternal, and if her brother Polynices does not receive a burial then he will doomed in the afterlife to endless unhappiness. Creon does not dispute Antigone’s right to her own personal interpretation of Theban religion, however religion’s subjectivity prevents it from ever having any ruling power over people; each individual has a different interpretation of what religion means to them. State laws, on the other hand, are completely objective and are simple to understand and follow. Laws bring clarity to a dysfunctional world; they are the bedrock of the city.
Scrooge tries to put out the light by, putting an extinguisher cap on it and in the book and in the movies he does not succeed. The light symbolizes the truth which is why he can't get rid of the light because you can never extinguish the
The passage says, “and reverence towards the gods must be safeguarded.” For Antigone this quote illustrates that her reasoning that the gods would be on her side was not an assumption she should have made, because not one did the gods talk to her specifically and tell her to bury the body of her brother. At first in the play Antigone was relishing in the fact that she would die for a noble hubris cause, but she later on questions the gods when she talks about the gods not being on her side. Creon on the other side commits the act of blasphemy towards the gods by mocking Zeus in one of his speeches. Creon also compares himself to the gods and both of them should have not used the god’s names for the hubris ways. Lastly the passage says, “those blows will teach us wisdom.” Both Antigone and Creon lost the very things they cared about while trying to be hubris.
Let me grant your prayers. Come, listen to me” (Sophocles, line 290). Oedipus does not follow his people’s custom of submitting his will to the gods. He feels he is equal, or even superior, to the gods, as if his people should only rely on him because he had overcome the Sphinx and rose to power on his own. Creon views the gods differently.
Also after watching it I did not had some deep feelings about any of the characters of the movie and I did not got anything learning from that movie. For some of people who loves movie just to relax they might love it. I was excepting from that movie that it will show maybe something about Indian person who will get education and make something different in his life, but it did not. Another thing that I still wonder is the name of the movie: Smoke Signals. My opinion is that in the begging of the film smoke showed the death and trouble for somebody.
King Leonidas Leonidas was the king of Sparta at one time. He is most famous for leading the three hundred Spartans against the Persian army. He lived in the Peloponnesus and the city state of Sparta. Leonidas had a major impact in his time; he led troops to eliminate Persians to defend Sparta. Doing this Sparta and Athens won the war against the Persians, but ended up losing to Rome.
Unfortunately, the statue stood for only 56 years until Rhodes was hit by an earthquake in 226 BC. The architect of the Colossus, Chares Lindos, was a Rhodian sculptor, who was a patriot, and fought in the defense of the city. If it were spanning the harbor, they would have been forced to close the harbor to make it, which would shut down their economy. This of course, is not correct, it was actually posed in a traditional Greek matter; nude, wearing a spiked crown, shading his eyes with his right hand, and holding a cloak in his left. According to a book called Pilon of Byzantium, only 15 tons of bronzes were used, and only 9 tons or iron were used; although, these numbers are low.
It is ironic because Wang knows about the arrival of gods, but he doesn’t offer the god a place to stay, instead, he pushes the responsibility to someone else. Wang helps the gods to find a good person who can provide shelter, but many refused, only Shen Te, the prostitute, agrees to keep the gods. Having gods to stay is an honor, but in Setzuan, it seems to be a disgrace; therefore, the three gods have a conclusion on the only good human being they found in Setzuan, which is Shen Te. The gods return with 1000 silver pieces, but tells Shen Te not to inform others because the gods think this action could be misinterpreted; it is irony that even gods worry about this kind of small matters. After a few days, Shen Te ironically uses the money to buy an unhealthy tobacco store, and immediately, a family of eight starts to take advantage of her wealth.
The Persians ran out of supplies and returned after the defeat of Marathon. The second invasion of Greece by the Persians happened in the year 480 BC. Xerxes was the Persian King at this time. He gathered a huge army. This army attacked the Greeks at Thermopylae, a town just north of
The movie Troy had some changes from the poem The Iliad but those changes did not necessarily alter the major idea conveyed by both the movie and the poem. There were definitely some major differences between the movie and the poem. Some of the major incidents remain unchanged in both Troy and The Iliad. The cause of the war remains the same. Paris steals Helen away from her husband, Menelaus, which he takes as an insult to himself and his kingdom.
