Pursuit of a Graduate Degree Jessica Dawson COM 516/ Professional Communication August 22, 2011 Jacob Green ABSTRACT The path that leads me to pursue a Master’s degree in adult education and training is one that I was hesitant to travel. Since childhood there was always a clear picture in my mind of how I would lead my life and contribute to my community. Unfortunately, the plans that I made for myself years ago turned out to be misguided and unsatisfying. After months of insightful introspection a light bulb went off and my new life plan was formed. The pursuit of new found personal goals lead to the University of Phoenix where I will garner the skills, contacts and confidence to succeed in my chosen career.
I try looking for a job first to take care of my daughter and pay for my finances but that wasn’t successful. I needed to have a high school degree and a few years’ experience. It was a few days before I contacted Student Services at a nearby school and enrolled immediately. My journey has just begun and I never knew the road to success could be so difficult. I had many sleepless nights and so many assignments I thought I would never finish.
I tried going to alternative school while working and pregnant but that did not last but a semester either. I was to worried about what my child’s father was doing that I also quit going to that school. Six months after having my first child I ended up pregnant with my second one. I knew from then that I had no chance of ever going back. So I got married at 17 and started just playing the house wife and mom, till it came to me having to find a job.
The bruise had been there for a few days and was starting to bother me. My mother took me to the pediatrician’s office that sent us for x-rays. My mom received a phone call; this is a day we will never forget. The pediatrician states that I need to be seen up at children’s hospital in Boston by a specialist in Infectious disease. After months of testing and the doctors telling my mom I might have cancer, we finally got an answer.
The term marked is a device used to put women into categories based on an initial overview, or judgment, of her. The process is basically stereotyping. Women are picked apart on every aspect of their lives. To begin, women can spark their mark at the very start of their day. Choosing what to wear and how to wear it is just the beginning.
Little did anyone know that the events that would soon occur dramatically would change Horney’s life in many ways. After experiencing a little of what medical school offered, Horney met and married a fellow student. Why College Education is Important to Me For most individuals, a college education is merely the next step in the road to a successful career. For myself, the importance of a college education is more of a personal goal. Eight years ago, one of the last conversations I had with my mother prior to her passing away was her wish for me to attain my Bachelors Degree; a goal I had made for myself back when I was just entering High School but never attained as planned. I was one of those numbers who contributed to the statistics of having to drop out of college early on due to pregnancy. As a single parent, I had to put my educational goals on the back burner to raising my family.
College Admissions Essay Why should I get accepted? Our lives are filled with dreams and hopes for the future. Like many others one of my many dreams in life has been my college education and obtaining the degree in a profession that I have a passion for but for many years unfortunately helping my parents has been a priority and I have fallen behind on my commitment. One day on a pretty Monday morning when taking my daughter to a doctor’s appointment is when I realized that I must dedicate my life to her and be the best role model I could. In this paper I will discuss how she inspired me and in a moment I pulled myself together that I should fulfill my lifelong dream, make her prod and there is nothing that should stop me.
From the beginning of my school career, my elders always stressed the importance of education. Throughout high school, I never understood why an education was so important, I often would goof off or not take my studies seriously. While most high school graduates are deciding where to go to college and what to study, I decided to focus on raising a family. When my youngest child turned three, I finally entered the workforce. This is when I realized how important a college education really was.
This is half of who my child will be. P2 I agree with Joan Ryan’s statement “It is the acknowledgement that parents are the ones choosing, and then guiding their children through the outside environment“. The parental figure has so much influence on the path that their child will take through life. For example I was hell bent on not going to college for a year after I graduated from high school I just wanted to get a job and have fun. My Mom made a completely different decision for me, and guided me to college.
