Unit 5: Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care 1.1/1.2 There are many different types of abuse and they all result in behaviour towards a person that deliberately or intentionally cause harm. It is a violation of an individual’s human and civil rights and in the worst cases can result in death. Victims may suffer severe neglect, injury, distress and/or depression and people without capacity are particularly vulnerable. There are types of abuse that are not listed below such as discriminatory abuse and cultural abuse. Other types of abuse along with their signs and symptoms are as follows: Type of abuse | Definition | Signs and symptoms | Physical | Physical injuries can occur where there is no satisfactory explanation, definite knowledge, or a reasonable suspicion that injury was inflicted with intent, caused through lack of care by the person having custody, charge or care of that person.

There are three main factors behind the rise in child abuse. First one is the problem that the parents have. Misunderstand about the child abuse, abuse chain and parents’ psychology sometimes causes the oppression. Second one is the problem that the children have. The children who have the character that difficult to treat or some physical trouble can sometimes abused by their parents.
Parental mental illness can have a negative effect on the parent / child relationship and child development, especially where there is little external support. Children with parents who had mental illness had a higher likelihood of child neglect and this was a considerable risk factor in their safety and welfare. There are difficulties when multiple agencies are involved with a family and problems with communication and information sharing is a challenge. Fear of confrontation with resourceful parents overwhelms their desire of alerting child neglect. As a result children may continue to live in negligent despite public knowledge. Children with disabilities have in general a larger risk of being abused (predators seek out the weakest). Knowing this, both families and teachers have a very low threshold for alerting Child welfare. The situation may improve if the issue of children’s welfare were put on the agenda, in media as well as in school.
The usual targets of this kind of violence are women that are most likely, injured. Children living in a household with IPV may not actually witness violent events but are nonetheless exposed to IPV through after-effects including the physical and / or psychological traumatic impacts on the victim. IPV exposure impacts these children and often results to negative short and long term behavioral, psychological, cognitive and social impacts on children. These children witnessing the violence sometimes get involved in the IPV by being caught in the conflict unintentionally or while stepping in to defend a parent being victimized. Children exposed to IPV are also likely to be victims of child maltreatment, as there is a high co-occurrence of both types of violence.
Child Abuse and Neglect: Summary. Child abuse is a crucial part of the law in todays society. When asked to define child abuse what do you think of? I think of a child being beaten to near death or maybe even deprived of food sources that they need to survive. The child could also feel a sad disappointed feeling because their parent won’t give them the attention a child should be receiving or a child could just be being neglected all together possibly by the parent just not caring, but I will tell you all about these things in my paragraphs below.

Although untold numbers of abused kids are losing their innocence and being forced leaves their childhood well before their time, we forget that fact. Many of us don’t even realize it. The daily rigors of providing the necessities and a happy life for ourselves and families push painful thoughts of children of abuse to the far corners of our mind. What follows here are some hard to face facts.
This may have resulted from turning a heavy patient un assisted from other staff or equipment not available. The company could be prosecuted for failing to comply with regulations. i.e. a breach of Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Manual Handling Regulations. I don’t think this was ethical. I don’t think information discussed in a board should be discussed or brought to the media unless they are doing something illegal. Without honesty and trust these board members will also have these issues. I think policies and consequences should handle situations like this. Someone should not be able to show dishonesty, lack of respect or unethical decisions and still be a part of that
