Summary/ Response Assignment O`Malley, Patrick. “More Learning, More Testing” In “More Testing, More Learning,” Patrick O`Malley suggests that college professors should give tests to the students periodically in order for the students to learn more. Furthermore, more tests or exams will minimize the student’s stress because students will be more familiar with the subjects that are given to them. Like the author says, “If professors gave an additional brief exams at frequent intervals, student would learn more, study more regularly, worry less, and perform better on midterms, finals, and other papers and projects.” (O`Malley, pg. 488).
Students need structure. Structure in the classroom will cause self motivation in students. Also, students don't like being held accountable for their actions. Having to talk to students about why they didn't finish their assignments will motivate them to do their work. Most students try to avoid being lectured or get in trouble for something they can avoid.
Unfortunately, the FCAT does not evaluate student’s performance correctly due to students that fall under pressure. The pressure that student’s feel and encounter is also known as test anxiety. According to Channel 7 reporter Erica Rakow’s in the article “FCAT Stresses Students Out, she claims” The responsibility of passing both reading and math portion of the FCAT in 10 grade adds a stressful ambiance to students who really do not want to retake it as a junior (par.2). Rakow also points out “That responsibility includes promotions to the next grade, and future funding for their school. Some students get so worked up about the test they can’t even get through it (par.3).
Tardy students also tend to ask questions that have already been answered. They need individual “catching up” later on, when the teacher should be helping other students with the next task. This delays class even more. Therefore, it is important to be on time. It is also important to have an unambiguous, reasonable start time for class.
Many college students have a serious problem with anxiety. The Lassi module of Anxiety helps students to realize how to reduce stress from a day to day basis. By reducing and/ or even eliminating anxiety, the student is more able and willing to participate in courses, and complete the course work assigned as homework. Taking tests and doing other quizzes and in class work, is much harder for one who is diagnosed with anxiety. Clinical studies show that students who are free from anxiety, and other physiological illness, are more likely to achieve more than those who are going through the tragedy.
Trainers should help students in creating such presentations and taking questions .All these activities require more efforts. The trainers should design the course carefully so that they can achieve the main objectives of learning business English rather than involving games in them so that learners are helped not only in learning but also even in the future job activities. Disagreement:- In the teaching of business English as a foreign language, games are very important. Every new learner finds it difficult to cope up with learning of n w language initially and continuous classroom discussions becomes monotonous, slow and boring. Games make lesson learning fun.
Final exams are a time of stress for students to worry about if they can recall all the lessons that their professors have went over within that semester. Students who are scarcely passing any of their classes need their final exams to be passing grades, so they tend to study a little harder. Finals also allow students to see how all the lessons they have learned connect through small facts. Identifying and understanding thoroughly everything the professor particularly emphasizes in class can be a hard and tough experience when preparing to study for finals. In Joy Alonso’s “Two Cheers for Examination “she uses examinations to examine the purposes and useless of exams in two and four year colleges to appear to students and teachers.
“The institutions traditionally procure, provide and control the technology for learning but now students are acquiring their own personal technologies for learning and institutions are challenged to keep pace” (Research in Technology Learning, 2010). Computers and other technical devices that are being used to enhance student learning helps to make teaching more creative and effective; however, it has also caused a lot of confusion and chaos in regards to ethics. Once teachers only had to be concerned about the basic rules of classroom etiquette and they could govern their classroom visually. Now teachers have to implement rules and guidelines to ensure that technology in the classroom is being used for its intended purpose to protect students from lurking dangers that might not always be detected by human
Sitting a first exam is another transition that children will find a challenge. There will be associated feelings of anxiety, even fear. They then worry about the result and how that will affect their grades or courses they want to embark on. The importance of good support from teachers and parents is fundamental to reduce the stress the child will
Sometime, they even begin the final project without the instructor’s authorization and proper guidance forgetting that without the instructions they might give the wrong information. An online student also expects services at all time of the night or day. They need to understand that waiting is part if teaching and learning for the internet speed is not the same as the course speed. Internet teaching is all about following instructions and doing your work on time. Traditional students must write a thesis and take notes before writing a research
