This created some issues as the Jews that were living in Palestine, the preferred home for both Arabs and Jews; it meant that the country would be under direct Arab rule. The Sykes-Picot Agreement of October 1916 was a secret agreement between Great Britain, France and Russia, which divided up the conquered Ottoman Empire. When Russia pulled out of WW1, due to the Bolshevik communist government rising to power, they were removed from the agreement. This agreement completely contradicted the Arab-favouring
He tried so desparately to create a total blonde-haired, blue eyed poplation and anyone who wasn’t of that demographic was to be executed. Purifying the world as a complete Aryan race was his idea of perfect. Hitler could not see a world with anyone but his “own” people and his main target were the Jewish people of the surrounding countries. Many countries that Germany asked for help were very hesitant to lend a helping hand so Adolf Hitler attempted to take over the world by himself. It is believed that Adolf Hitler had put a tremendous amount of blame on the Jewish population for the losses of World War I and embarrassment that wouled ensue Germany afterwards.
This administration was not entering into this war without its own interests addressed since they received $6 billion (US) from Kuwait in support for the United States forces. The USA had its own interests in mind and the most important to them was not the safe return of all Kuwaiti land but rather the oil with which Kuwait would owe them for returning their land. This war was also known as the Desert Storm. Desert Storm was not only about Iraq since it affected many countries around Iraq. Some have suggested that Israel felt threatened as a result of the power which Sadaam and Iraq had gained and that is what brought the United States into the war.
It is well known that the withdrawal of Britain from Palestine exposed Zionist forces to the invading armies of Egypt, Transjordan and other Arab nations. Traditional Zionist accounts interpret Britain’s final actions in Mandate Palestine through the lens of anti-Semitism, accusing Britain of forging a secret, sinister alliance with the Arab states to wage war on young and fragile Israel. However, analysis of English, Hebrew and Arabic documents has produced an altered, revisionist theory: Britain felt that a tiny Palestinian Arab state, undoubtedly under the influence of radical leader Hajj Amin al-Husayni, could not hope to survive on its own. Thus, British policy aimed at the incorporation of the Palestinian Arab territory into Transjordan. Issue #3 is the balance of arms in the War.
How far do you agree that US support in the years 1945-48 was the most important factor in the creation of an independent state of Israel? (Point 2) The German Nazis had killed more than six million Jews in the Nazi Holocaust. There was widespread sympathy in Europe and the United States for the Jews who had survived the Nazi centration camps. (Explain & Example) The sympathy for the Jews in general and for Zionism in particular grew significantly as a result of what the Jews suffered under the Nazis. Many western countries wanted to create a homeland for the Jews where they could settle and feel safe.
Overall I think that the building of the Berlin Wall could actually have had a more positive effect. On the one hand it may be argued that the results of building the wall were mainly negative as it led to a great deal of tension between the two sides. The wall separated many families and friends and this persuaded Willy Brandt to do a demonstration in response. Due to the uncertainty of whether they could be anything to follow military forces were strengthened in the FRG. In 1961 USA sent an additional 40,000 soldiers to Europe, the majority to West Berlin.
The consequences of Kristallnatch, the event in Germany was rejected by various and praised by others, many governments cut off relations with Germany in protest. The Jews who remained in Germany were forced to pay a fine of one billion marks for the damage in kristallnatch, Jewish children were not accepted in schools and there was a mass escape of Jews living in territories ruled by the 3rd Reich. As we saw the Kristallnatch was not a spontaneous act but an act orchestrated by the nazis who had been waiting for the right occasion to performed it, with that act the Nazis declared an
I agree that African Americans were treated as second class citizens in the USA in 1950 due mainly to the way they were treated and public attitude towards them. However, by this time attitudes were in fact changing due to President Truman’s stance on black rights and the 1948 election as well as post second world war. After the Second World War, the American public were informed of how Jewish and other victims of Hitler and the Nazis were treated. This made Americans questions whether the segregation of the African American community was morally right and many were scared that it could lead to treating them similarly to the victims of the Second World War. Attitudes were beginning to shift.
Semantics or Substance: Case 229 The nations within the borders of the Middle East are no strangers to violent conflicts. They have been dealing with conflict since before the crusades, so it should come as no surprise that a tremendous amount of political discord has been aimed towards pacifying the region. With the history of hostility and the abundance of certain resources (oil) in the Middle East, it has been one of the primary interests of western nations to try and build a sustainable peace within the region. One of the issues at the heart of these Middle Eastern conflicts is the creation of Israel after WWII in 1947. The UN backed Resolution 181 partitioned Palestine and effectively left the Palestinian people without a homeland after Israel declared its independence.
