As it was rather cheap to import movies internationally than to produce them locally and not many British films have been produced, Australia depended and relied very much on America. By the mid-end of 1950s, many American movies and films such as “I love Lucy”, “The untouchables” and “sunset strip 77” have been blasted onto many Australian TV screens. Consequently, much of the humour and language aspects (including pronunciation and accents) of American culture have been learnt and sometimes even applied to our daily communication. Here, we can obviously see that the introduction of American movies and films was another aspect that has made a big contribution to the Americanisation of
Printing news differs because the visuals are flat, has more text to read on, and actually provides more important news. In the novel written by Postman and Powers, “How to Watch TV News,” it talks about how the TV stations just simply want to make profit for their own benefits by creating “their” input in the stories. TV news does capture the audiences in watching because it consists of moving pictures, gossips about celebrities, and is actually a “theatre” of news than an information source. The novel also states that at random and unneeded times; the news would just talk about the celebrities’ lives, such as Britney Spears or Oprah. There is several important news that needs to be heard and seen, but the TV news wants to bring in more audiences.
New technology has changed the Pyrmont community, because it is able to open up new jobs, but also causes decline in jobs that are already there. Such as in the 1980s when the large freight industry was moved out of Pyrmont, due to the improvement of cargo ships, which enable more stocks to be transported, but could no longer fit in the docks of Pyrmont. These caused thousands of residents to leave Pyrmont in search of jobs that were lost at the docks, with thousands of men gone, businesses around Pyrmont quickly followed, as they made no money were they were. The development of transport has also changed Pyrmont, with more frequent services, many people living outside Pyrmont are still able to work there, getting there either by train, bus, taxis or car. New technology also changes work patterns in Pyrmont.
Explain how technological innovations have contributed to a ‘shrinking world’ for many people (10 marks) Advancements in technology have essentially reduced the amount of time it takes to contact someone on the other side of the world. An example of this is the introduction of the world wide web/internet, where emails allowed people to almost instantly contact people who may be Australia. The introduction of emails in 1989 allowed people to contact others wirelessly and not have to be within a certain physical distance, making it an incredibly efficient system. Furthermore, viewing TV on the news has led to some sort of time – space compression for many people, in the sense that again, we do not have to be within a certain physical distance in order to experience how a certain culture may be or to gain updates on world activities almost instantly. This inter – connectivity has led to some people arguing that this has led to a shrinking world through communication.
However, compared to other countries, Australia is currently accepting the least amount of refugees. Under new decisions, the Australian government is forcing asylum seekers to Thailand and other foreign countries so that they don’t deal with as many refugees. More asylum seekers should be allowed into Australia as Australia is available to help and it is a multicultural nation. Australia is very big and compared to the size of other countries (in comparison with its population), its population is minuscule. Yes, most of Australia’s land is not in living conditions, but there still is lots more room for these people, plenty in fact.
This means the government does not see the need to have as many fire men/women and therefore made many redundant and closed down fire stations in order to save money. This has caused an upset, both with fire men and women local residents as they believe the service times may increase as there is not as many available in comparison to before the redundancies. The same can be said about the police force, there has been a vast decrease between the amount of people the police force take on and train and allow to become a member of the police force as they simply cannot take on the amount that may be needed due to government cutbacks and financial policies. However, a positive affect that can be said about financial policies that result on cutbacks for public services could be that as money is saved for example in reducing the amount of fire stations and fire men/women, the money could be invested in an alternative public service such as the paramedic service or the NHS in order to
Even in instances where cameras were shown to decrease certain types of accidents, they increased other accidents. The use of red light cameras has definitely allowed motorists to become more conscience of their surroundings when approaching an intersection. They are less likely to proceed through an intersection and risk a chance of receiving a violation. Consequently, the fewer tickets issued the less revenue for cities. Statistics show that the number of tickets has dropped during recent years having a major impact on the number of red light
Over-production – Fewer products such as cars, consumer good etc were not being sold as factories were making more goods than Americans needed or could afford to buy. As the number of sells went down, the prices of goods also went down which meant that wages had to be kept low. When this did not work, industrialists had to resort to sacking workers, and because the workers did not have any more money, they could not afford luxury so factories continued to
However, it took longer time to go to work since he just needed 40 minutes to drive to work but he needed more or less two hours to go to work by Caltrain. He complained about the inconvenience with his colleagues and he found that his colleagues also had the same problems. Some of his colleagues chose to pool car, which means people drive to work with other strangers who work nearby and share the gas price. And they said that as gas prices increased, their wages were not increased as fast as gas prices. As a result, the increasing of gas prices bring inconvenience to people’s lives.
In the 1800s when tourism was restricted in Rotorua, the tourist attractions were very concentrated in the central tourism district. This was because transport was limited and therefore attractions that were far away were not accessed easily, and so not visited. However, after the improvement of transport attractions not so close to the central tourism district were able to be visited. The bid-rent curve represents how land in the central tourism district is expensive, but the further away from the CTD, the cheaper the land is to purchase. When transport was greatly improved, small businesses were able to create their own tourist attractions, further away from the CTD where the land is cheaper.
