It goes without saying; we are significantly influenced by history. History has affected our media, our music, our fashion, and many other things. There are many things that are more important than the luxuries we enjoy that history has influenced, such as our life choices. Throughout history we have learned from other peoples’ mistakes and people benefit by using others to push themselves higher at the expense of that person. For example, common sense says that most people who dropped out of high school, abused illegal substances, and do not have an education higher than 10th grade, did not end up to be the next CEO and president of the most successful Fortune 500 company to date. This is because our conscience tells us that it hasn’t worked for others, so it probably won’t work for me. In this way, history has not changed, because we all know that this is still evident in our society today, but humans associated with human error have made some dramatically big mistakes that may still have an effect on us years after these errors were made. Preserving history is important because we need to be reminded to not make those mistakes again. History is preserved through literature. The history of our origins is most directly found in history textbooks, but is also tremendously evident in Literature. Everyone has read a historical fiction during their time as a student. Although some may argue that they are only based on the fictional characters that were not important in the development of society at that time, they do represent an event in time that had a significant role in history as we know it. These authors do you a favor by retelling history that most people find more entertaining than reading about it in a history book. But if we believed that learning or knowing history does not benefit people, it would not be taught, and people will fall for the same
