The Second Amendment was designed to guarantee the ability of law-abiding citizens to own and use firearms for legal purposes (The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, 2010). Even with the current gun control laws and their supporters, there are associations opposing against any and all types of gun control. The opponents of gun control, such as the National Rifle Association, argue that the “right to bear arms” is their guarantee under the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. This association also argues the licensing restrictions
The safety of the students at school may be at risk, such as the school shootings that occurred at Columbine High School. While many feel that providing teachers with handguns may prove detrimental to safety efforts, imposing such measures would provide educators and students alike with increased security and overall safety. Teachers should be allowed to carry handguns in school because it is their right to bear arms, it would provide better protection for the kids, and it would provide the parents with reassurance that their children are safe. First, as a United States citizen, it is our right to bear arms. It means we the people have the right to own and carry firearms.
Politicians have stated thy will introduce new laws wanting tougher background checks, forced registration, and outright banning of military looking firearms. All these types of new laws will cut down on crime and make this country a safer place. But I believe the way to protect against a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun. First of all on the issue of it will cut down on violent crime, who are they kidding criminals rarely obey laws; studies show most criminals acquire guns through friends or theft. Adam Lanza the shooter at Newtown stole the guns he used from his mother.
Also, the attempt on President Reagan, as well as the recent string of shootings in American schools. Following the assassinations, the Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed, with its central aim being a national standard on how and to whom guns were sold. This was added on to in 1994 with the Brady Act, which required gun dealers to run background checks on gun buyers before selling them to the buyers. While there are some gun regulations currently in affect in the United States, pro gun control advocates still want more, while anti gun control advocates strongly oppose them. Along with a number of other things, the two opposing views are backed by different interpretations of the Second Amendment.
Critical Exchange Argument Outline Is it time for the nation to take steps to have stronger gun control? Stricter gun controls laws are ineffective and offer only false security to the misinformed. The theory that stricter gun control could have prevented tragedy can be refuted on the basis that the two students who went on a rampage in Columbine violated at least 20 gun control laws thus finding loopholes in the regulations. Increasing gun controls laws also infringes on our constitutional rights. The Supreme Court ruled on June 28th 2013, that individual Americans have a constitutional right to own guns- to all cities and states for the first time.
This kind of violence allowed many questions to arise about what could have been done to avoid the shootings. “In 2004, the United States had about 30,000 gun-related deaths…” (Jost, K., 2007) Making school campuses safe is always a major focus for colleges, universities, and even schools that have children under 18. Some people felt that if more gun control laws had been implemented that thing like the Virginia Tech shooting would not have occurred. (Jost, K., 2007) The shooting was very unfortunate, and innocent people died for no reason. Gun control laws do help prevent this from happening as often.
Gun Control With the number of recent school shootings across the United States, gun control has been a provocative issue for many years. A large majority of American citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would rapidly reduce the jeopardy of lives. Many citizens believe they should have the right to carry a gun if not for protection of themself, but for their family as well, not to mention for the great American pastime of hunting. As long as the law is followed, Americans have a constitutional right to own hand guns; stricter laws and licensing requirements will not successfully save lives. The second amendment gives the right to American’s to bear arms; it basically states that with a well regulated military
The National Rifle Association of America is an American nonprofit organization that advocates for gun rights. The advocates for reducing gun violence fail by focusing on fighting the NRA instead of winning over the public with specific proposals. In a recent article published by Brandon E. Patterson, two of the students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School appeared on Fox News Sunday to lay out what they wanted to accomplish with the Washington DC protest against gun violence and arguing for stricter gun laws. Stated in the article, “Fox’s Chris Wallace asked Kasky (one of the students) to respond to a clip of one of his classmates seemingly accusing supporters of the march of wanted to take guns away from law-abiding gun owners during an interview.” Kasky also said, “The NRA wanted people to think that. They’re fear mongers.
I am one that is for stricter gun laws in America, as it is scary to think of future generations where gun ownership is just as common as owning a car. On the Whitehouse website, the first thing that popped up when researching about gun laws and violence with weapons was, “Now is the time to do something about gun violence.” Now to me, this sounds like congress has every intention to do “something” about guns and gun violence, but what? After the Sandy Hook shooting, in Barack Obama’s speech he mentioned that it was an “obligation” for America to do something to prevent events like this from occurring again. The site also says, “Most gun owners are responsible and law abiding.” The key word here is “most”. What about the others who are not responsible and law abiding?
One solution about the problem may be to speak up about the problem. How will anyone know that gun violence is a problem and must be stopped? “Closed Mouths Don’t Get Fed” A great quote that support this solution. We need to speak up, adults as well as our young children. Adults can speak to the young children and let them know what’s right from wrong considering our young children are the ones being targeting when it comes to gun play as well as violence.
