Good Sportsmanship Sportsmanship is a key aspect in all athletes; it brings out people’s character and leaves an impression of them on you. Sportsmanship is how you act and respond to situations on and off of the field. Having integrity and being respectful plays a big role in having good sportsmanship. Having good sportsmanship means you can lose and not be rude about the loss. Also it means when you win you aren’t rubbing it in the other team’s face arrogantly. Good sportsmanship shows that you can play your best and never give up, even if your team is losing. You are able to show it on the field with your attitude and the way you’re reacting in situations. When playing against another team and you are winning by a good amount of points you should be able to realize that maybe scoring more and more could be too much. Being a good sport you should always have respect for yourself, your team and the other team. Once after a softball game we had won pretty badly instead of being rude to other team we shook their hands and told that they each played a great game. Just this past year in the 2011 NBA playoffs when the Dallas Mavericks were playing the Los Angeles Lakers, the Lakers knew the weren’t going to be able to win and some of the players started to play excessively rough. They were just constantly getting fouls and unnecessary ones. Now this is obviously not good sportsmanship, having a bad sportsmanship means you have no respect for yourself or your teammates. Being a bad sport doesn’t always have to be physical contact it can be how many points you are putting up on the board against another team that isn’t playing as well as your team. In today’s society it’s always about winning, but winning shouldn’t ever neglect being a good sport. Sportsmanship not only matters in sports, but it occurs in our everyday lives.
