If the many families of our societies and the government don’t start to control the situation, then it will always be a major problem within our households. It is true that fast food is promptly available it doesn’t mean the habit should be avoided. I believe the epidemic on child obesity with fast food consumption can be solved by first solving the problem with the parent. It will take time to eliminate the problem with the consumption of always eating fast food but it will be a start. Whether if the government decided to take action related to fast food for the cause of child obesity.
He shows that one could go over the government’s recommended daily calorie intake and they would never know. Zinczenko indirectly warns the fast-food companies that without the proper nutritional information, they will quickly find themselves under the microscope of the government and the people they
He recommends that in search of a better way to serve customers, the fast food industry has negatively infused its way into the American culture. Schlosser brings to light plenty of shocking facts like how the actual cost of a Happy Meal is determined and how it manipulates the children to persuade their parents to treat them out to McDonalds. A growing awareness of the connection between diets and disease is slowly but surely taking hold in the minds of consumers. Natural and organic foods are becoming more popular across the country. However, our government hasn’t taken the steps that most
The golden arches are now more widely recognized than the Christian cross” (Schlosser 4-5). Schlosser uses the facts based off the survey to show Americans truly how disturbing this industry has impacted many generations, whether they’re ten years old or sixty. In many other places, Schlosser uses more facts to expose just how awful fast food has become in our lives, “they spend more on fast food than on movies, books, magazines, newspapers, videos, and recorded music- combined” (3). Having a jam packed full introduction filled with all the horrid truth based around the industry makes people think right from the get-go just how badly Americans need to change their lifestyles. Schlosser’s purpose to get society thinking twice on choosing McDonald’s for their next meal was effective; readers are already intrigued and eager to learn more on just how bad the fast food industry
After seeing, “Super Size Me,” it has shown me the devastating effects of excessively eating fast food. The documentary shows Morgan Spurlock was made to show the increasing spread of obesity throughout the United States society. Many lawsuits were brought against McDonald’s for increase in obesity. In “Super Size Me”, Places like McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s also advertise toys that are included in kid’s meals to cause children to want to get those meals rather than something healthier. The increasing spread of obesity has become an epidemic and if Americans do not change their eating habits it will greatly effect the world to come.
Children need guidance in developing social competency to meet need, deal with stress, accept themselves for their strengths and weaknesses, and recognize how the media and popular culture influence their decisions. Lawsuits have been made over the year against these fast food places blaming them for their children’s obesity. They suggest that if there were healthier food choices and food labels on the food then maybe the obesity rate wouldn’t be so high. While he has valid points, he overlooks the personal viewpoint of the parents and their own self responsibility. Zinczenko claims that “Many single parents claim that working long hours and having low income contributes to why their children eat the way they do” (153).
Deadly, addictive and legal. Daily, victims of this drug are diagnosed with the hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. The government's recommendations are not enough anymore. Regulations need to be implemented to restrict the amount of excess sugar poured into our foods and beverages, in order to help prevent increased obesity. The sweet poison however has been so hard to evict as society has become so reliant on its contribution in 'enhancing' the quality of food.
DJ Chatman February 25, 2012 EN140-02 Rhetorical Analysis Final Draft Health and diet are two things that a lot of people do not take very seriously in the United States. Many people want to lose weight and be healthier, but the food that is available to American citizens and the way people view food in general make those tasks much more difficult than they should ever be. Judith Warner speaks about this in her article, “Junking Junk Food.” In this essay, I analyze the rhetorical situation of Warner’s article and her use of ethos, logos, and pathos appeals. I find that while Warner uses all three types of appeals, her pathos appeals are the most important to her argument. Judith Warner, a published author who writes for the New York Times, has written on many government and societal issues.
Many girls, at the age of four, like playing dress-up or playing with Barbies. I was the exception. A person might say I was the “tomboy” in the group because I liked playing with the boys. Although I liked hanging out with boys, I liked cheerleading. There came a time where my parents made me choose between softball and cheerleading.
Many factors contribute to childhood obesity, from genetics to simply over feeding. If the problem is the latter, reconsider what you are feeding your child, or simply how often you feed them. If it is the first, talk to you family practitioner. America has become almost dependent on fast food. With jam packed schedules, we don’t allow ourselves time to make healthy meals at home.
