Have you ever laughed so hard you cried? Well then you have never watched The George Lopez Show. George Lopez is a Mexican actor and comedian. He was born on April 23, 1961 in Mission Hills, California. He was abandoned by his father at the age of two and by his mother by the time he was ten. He was then raised by his factory worker “abuelos”, grandmother, Benita Gutierrez, and, Refugio Gutierrez, his step grandfather a construction worker. He was showed very little attention or affection as a child and his difficult childhood would become the center of his comedy. George Lopez never knew his father, never had a birthday party and has never seen a baby picture of him. He was bullied as a child due to the fact he had a large head and was the darkest kid in his class. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley of California, and has been quoted as saying it was hard growing up as a Mexican kid in America then. As he became an adult he thought about making a career in information technology, but soon decided he was a funny guy. Some of his earlier breaks were in the 1980s, when he became a full time comic by doing standup comedy. He also landed some small roles in films. In 2000 he hosted his own radio show on the English-language radio station MEGA 92.3 F.M. in Los Angeles; he was the first Latino to host a radio show in Los Angeles. In 2002 actress Sandra Bullock approached George after seeing his comedy act. She wanted him to star in a Hispanic-based sitcom she was going to produce. This sitcom became The George Lopez Show. The show made history as in becoming the most successful English-language prime time television series about Latin Americans since George’s main inspiration, Chico and the Man which played in the 1970’s. His show featured a fictionalized version of himself and his family. It showed for the first time in 2002 and it has become one of the most-watched
