Adoption Rights Equality for Same-Sex Couples In this day and age, gay rights are slowly but surely gaining acceptance in today’s society. Granted that there have been improvements in how people view gay rights, there still remains quite the distance before reaching its ultimate goal of equality. One of the many controversial topics in relation to this subject which will also be the main focus of discussion is adoption for same-sex couples. There is no doubt that there are many out there who continue to question whether or not same-sex parenthood is deemed appropriate in today’s society. Their own reasons of disapproval vary from being religion-based to claiming that all children should be raised by a male and female figure.
As more people “came out of the closet” gays and lesbians are becoming more socially accepted. They currently are battling for equality in a variety of areas. Even though the number of children adoptions would increase, No, gay and lesbians couples should not be allowed to adopt kids. It has been research and it’s said that it confuses children about gender roles and expectations of society. The gay and lesbians lifestyle is not something to be encouraged, as a lot of research shows it leads to a much lower life expectancy, psychological disorders, and other problems.
5. “Gay or lesbian teachers should not be hired in elementary schools” is a statement that is just plain WRONG!! Why in the world would this effect the learning goals of an elementary student? Just because someone is gay does not dictate what kind of a teacher they are. If the teacher speaks openly about it, it could actually build a student’s self esteem if they too are gay.
They did not provide love, safety, or protection for Antwone or the other foster children in their care. Those three things were what Antwone was always trying to find. The Social welfare system, in my opinion, did not protect Antwone Fisher. The system did not protect any of the children that were living in the Pickett household. Antwone was a victim of physical, verbal, emotional, and sexual abuse
I totally disagree, but the birth parents can also raise bad children. Many children are not raised by their biological mother and father, and they turn out just fine. Stanton’s argument consists of either or reasoning, and is not considering single parenting that can be caused by death. He seems to be stereotyping
there is no solid proof that the media causes violence, and although parents do a lot to help and protect their children, there are still some steps that can be taken to protect their children against violent and sexual material. Government intervention not stands for it. Violence starts at home, not on TV or in a computer game. America needs to stand together and fight youth violence and promiscuous sex without taking away the rights of citizens. We all want to help America's youth, but Government intervention (stronger enforcement of existing laws or new legislation) into availability of popular culture media would not help to reduce violence and promiscuous sex among America's
The government and charities spend huge amounts of money on the child welfare system. So, if homosexuals are given the right to adopt a child, it would not only benefit the child but also the community. He is right by reminding us that it is far better for a child to be raised by a mother and a father but he neglects that homosexuals can raise a child, too. A child is taught to say “mom” or “dad”, he or she is not automatically born with the ability to say that. Therefore, between two male homosexuals, there can be a father and a mother.
On the one hand, these students are able to be safe and secure in the Harvey Milk environment and be truly accepted for who they are but on the other hand, it seems to be showing not only the LGBT community but also society that it may be best (or easier) if the gay and lesbian population is separated from the heterosexual population. In fact, this may be more detrimental to the heterosexual school populations. Separating the LGBT kids is sending the message to young people (as well as adults) that these kids need separate schools for their “issues”. The school systems may not be doing the job they should be to promote diversity and make sure all children and teenagers can feel safe and accepted when going to school. Harassment will never go away, especially in the schools, but creating separate schools for groups may not be the most ethical way of handling the situation.
When talking about homosexual vs. heterosexual unions, they are comparable in all ways; however, legalizing them together would cause irrevocable damage to our already weak view of the institution of marriage. Our young generation is in a time where they are being told how to speak and sometimes think, and societal indifference to gay marriage would further confuse our youths who already find their sexuality hard. It is very important that we continue to take strides toward accepting homosexual unions; however, legalizing gay marriage is not a necessary step for that to
Race, religious beliefs, or cultural differences should not be the sole reason to prevent an adoption from occurring. If a family meets the necessary criteria and have successfully completed the necessary requirements to receive a child then adoption agencies should allow them to adopt any child they choose. Interracial families will face difficulties but even the average “normal” family will have obstacles they will encounter. The concept that adoption agencies have about providing the best option for the sake of the child needs to include addressing high wait times. The solution could be placing the child with a family of a different race.
