These tests are created to only measure a small portion of knowledge students have acquired in their lifetime. The technology of testing cannot accurately measure numerous important attributes such as creativity, critical thinking, persistence, leadership, and resourcefulness. This is creating superficial thinkers, teaching students to see the quick and obvious answer; the tests don’t measure the ability to think deeply or creatively. Students are being taught to memorize instead of further strengthening their skills to solve real-world problems. These scores are highly unreliable because they can vary from day-to-day, based on the testing conditions or students mental/physical state.
We’ve all seen the typical classroom, rows of desks and chairs, a blackboard w/ chalk and educational posters. In my opinion, classrooms are very bleak and boring places of learning. Students sit for an hour a day trying to comprehend what the teacher at the front of the board is writing and trying to explain. At some point in that long hour they zone out into their own little world and forget by the time the bell rings what they were supposed to learn. John Holt writes in his essay “School Is Bad for Children,” explains “We need to get kids out of the school buildings, give them a chance to learn about the world at first hand.” (Holt, pg.67.)
Research Strategy Project Student name GEN200 July 25th, 2011 Faculty name Research Strategy Project Description of the problem: With only 24 hours in a day and tons of daily tasks, family and academic projects; time management is my biggest problem at the moment. Before I started preparing myself for bigger challenges in achieving my educational goals, I was underestimating the importance of “Time Management”. Time management is a powerful tool to get a better control over your use of time and energy. In this presentation, I am trying to come up with a resolution strategy to handle this obstacle effectively and professionally. 1.
Understanding of readings is essential for the group presentation, group assignment, individual assignment, and the examination. At the end of the day what you don’t know, you don’t know. You have an hour to complete the paper. Don’t sit there after 15 minutes worrying about the few answers that you don’t know. You will likely increase your levels of anxiety and feel miserable about the whole situation. Move
Week 7 - Self-Reflection Essay I started this Project 586 class with no experience in the project management field, but with the help of Professor Michael Hall throughout the entire class I learned about different phases of project life cycle. The four phases of project life cycle are initiating, planning, performing and closing the project. The most important thing is the triple constrains of the project which is cost, time and scope. Successful project must complete within cost, complete according to the schedule and according the functional and quality specifications of the scope. If one constraint changes the others are impacted as well, but always to keep one thing in mind that any constraints can be change but make sure the quality
They are not actively working for the income, instead they must wait until it comes in the mail or deposited into their accounts by others (Drentea, 2002). Retirees and individuals in late adulthood are exposed to a decline in their cognitive abilities (Berk, 2010). Their ability to control and divide their attention slows down and they begin to loose some of their memories (Berk, 2010). This no doubt impacts their mental health in a negative way and it causes them to become depressed and loose their connection with their families and society (Berk,
Those were some of the only words Brenda had uttered that day. See, earlier that morning Addie and Brittany had gotten into a fight that had apparently ruined Brenda’s whole birthday, and though they had made up nearly an hour ago Brenda still wasn’t budging as far as being upset with them went. Lucy and I awkwardly made side chat being the only neutral parties…caught in the middle of everything all day was getting really old. Yet despite the hostility we proceeded to stay as a group and make our way to the iconic ride, knowing that if we didn’t wait in this god awful line we would regret it the second we didn’t have the opportunity to. 45 minutes had passed, when we had finally reached the halfway point, crowded in an underground tunnel with really no option of going back and the end no where in sight was starting to take it’s toll on not only our group but on everyone else as well, especially the mother with two whining children.
On the math section, you’re usually given 25 minutes to finish 18 questions, which is really hard to finish because it takes a while to figure out how to solve. The reading section requires you to know difficult words, most of which you’ve probably never heard of in your whole life. The other part of the reading section is the passages and questions. You have to read a passage as fast as you can and then answer the questions as fast as possible so you don’t run out of time. Sloppily going through a passage and then answering the following questions is a very difficult task.
I also have a hard time managing my time during the day I always feel like there are not enough hours in the day. I would like to learn to stop procrastinating so and learn to be able to manage my time and be able to jump right in so to speak and do what need to be done during the time I have to do the tasks. Right now, I work full time forty hours a week but I work night from ten in the evening until six in the morning and then I go to school from eight until noon. So nine time out of ten I am tired after I get out of school so it is hard to concentrate and get my work done with enough time to get some sleep before I have to go to work again that night. It is also difficult for me to manage money right now because I do not make much at this point in my life so if I pay my bills I will not have money for myself which can get really frustrating when you can’t go to the store and buy something to drink or eat when you are want to eat.
