English 091 19 March 2013 The Effects of Meal Outsourcing Fast-food is more than a quick-easy meal to be inhaled on the way to somewhere more important. Its negative effects touch one physically, emotionally, and financially. It is true that there are healthy choices offered while eating out, meals can be shared even if not cooked at home, and there are low-cost options on fast food menus. Choosing to not cook and eat a family meal at home has negative health consequences, causes a deterioration of the family relationship, and has a higher cost. Even with healthier choices, one cannot be aware of exactly what is in the food cooked in restaurants, while families can opt out of the drive-through and go in to sit and eat together at fast-food establishments it isn't as intimate and the time is rushed, low-cost options on fast food menus cost more than cooking a family meal at home.
Thus, some people enjoy eating meals at home where others prefer eating at restaurants. First of all, preparing food at home allows a person to control the ingredients that are being added to the dish, to ensure proper cleansing procedures of food and dishes to prevent sickness. Furthermore, restaurant dishes often contain high sodium, oil, and can cause high cholesterol, which is unhealthy. For instance, individuals who have high cholesterol, hypertension and have to eat less fat and less sodium food are able to select more suitable food selection at the supermarket. Eating these foods can help them to have better physical conditions.
I’m aware of this based on nutrition fats which I have come to see on the food I’ve been eating. Michael Pollan states “Because most of what we’re consuming today is not food, and how we’re consuming it-in the car, in front of the TV, and increasingly alone-is not really eating. Instead of food, we’re consuming “edible foodlike substances”-no longer the products of nature but of food science,” I agree with what he say. We mostly just eat anything when we’re bored or have nothing to do. Drive-throughs are the main concern on why people get fact, every drive through are fatty foods, which a list of them would be Wendy’s, McDonalds, Burger King, etc.
Because were always on the go; the quick and affordability of fast food fits perfect for the kinds of busy lives we are living. It seems we as people are so busy trying to keep up or stay ahead in life that we miss the opportunities to avoid fast food and get healthier products. During your lunch break you step outside and what do you see? Tons of places which serve healthy choices. However due to sales, deals, catchy slogans, and it’s simple convenience, we are forced into making the decision of getting fast food without realizing it thus displaying lack of personal responsibility.
Eating at a fast food restaurant is inexpensive, fast, and convenient for many Americans. However, people have preferences, including this writer, for which McDonald’s is better than In-N-Out. Although In-N-Out restaurant Although In-N-Out offers "Quality you can taste", McDonald's restaurant has progressively has improved the quality of their product and its nutritional value making it the better fast food restaurant. Currently McDonald’s offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an extensive menu. In-N-Out only offers lunch and dinner with a limited menu.
Fast food tends to be very high in calories and is fattening. Road side hawker stalls use cheap oil over and over again. The overuse cooking oil becomes carcinogenic. Road side foods are usually not hygienic because there is no proper water supply. Unbalance nutrition is another aspect of regular eating out.
d) Eating fast food periodically to save time is beneficial depending on the lifestyle of the person utilizing this method of nourishment. On the other hand if a person uses fast food(non- healthy options) as a daily source of nourishment and does not exercise this can become a serious health problem. e)Home cooked meals are very cost effective if proper planning is used to keep meals intersting and palatable. It is often times cheaper depending on what type of meal is prepared.A bag of lettuce to make part of a meal costs about the same as a burger. Nowadays people tend to choose food in fast food restaurant rather than to cook a meal themselves. Despite the fact that fast food such as hamburger, fried chicken…contains high amount of fats and salt which are not good for our health, people still go to fast food restaurant frequently and the fast food industry is still getting more and more powerful. There are several explanations for this situation. In today’s fast paced life, 10 minutes is an ideal amount of time to get a ready meal. How can you do that when you cook yourself, which means you need to not only cook but also repair ingredients, clean up everything after having meal?
When people go on break from work and dont have much time to sit and eat a good meal it's a lot more cheaper and convient to stop and get something fast. The food is not always good but it is most of the time. Fast food is not very healthy either and it's one of the quickest ways to gain weight. I suggest that fast food should'nt be eaten every day because of the health risks. Teenagers like myself love fast food.
Regarding food safety, preparing and eating food at home can assure healthy and safe meals. Nowadays, there is a raising concern about the origin and quality of food before it is served at the table for the customers. In order to gain as much profit as possible, some restaurants may ignore safety standards while processing the food; they may buy materials and ingredients from unauthorized suppliers, perfunctorily clean their utensils and so on. What’s worse is that most customers are not aware of this possibility. By preparing my food, I can make sure the ingredients I buy are fresh and then process them carefully.
