It is up to us to determine how to act when dealing with these conflicts. Ethics “is sometimes used to refer to the set of rules, principles, or ways of thinking that guide, or claim authority to guide, the actions of a particular group; and sometimes it stands for the systematic study of reasoning about how we ought to act” (Deigh, 1995). Ethical issues are set more on theory and often leave you thinking about whether your decision in a certain situation is right or wrong. Ethics are standards based on, and apply to, a variety of people. It relates to how we treat other people in terms of respect and concern for their wellbeing. Moral issues consist of values, principles, and criteria that make up ones behavior. They “involve a difference of belief and not a matter of preference” (Philosophy.lander.edu [p.l.e], 2009). Morals make a person act a certain way and helps us do the right thing in specific situations. An individual might not agree with all ethical issues, but their morals help choose the appropriate way to deal with them. Morals are developed from childhood learning, parents, and one’s surroundings. Personal ethics is another term for one’s conscience. It determines what we believe about morality and doing right and wrong. Personal ethics symbolize the system of values that we use in everyday problem solving. Business ethics are written, and unwritten, codes of principles and values that set precedence for decisions and actions within a company.Work ethics are serious and should take priority over any personal reasons or beliefs.
