Ethical Filter Worksheet Here are the things that most effect my decisions, throughout my personal and organizational life. Although these are the values I believe are the most influential when it comes to ethical decision making, I believe ethics rely on the place and time of the decision (Þórarinsson, 2005). It is very difficult to say someone is going completely after these guidelines because when it comes down to it, it is very hard to say how someone will respond to a specific situation when he or she doesn´t have the experience he or she would have needed. You can be honest without telling people exactly what you are thinking, because some things are better left unsaid. Trust / Reliability Trust is something I truly value in one´s character. I learned it the hard way that not everyone can be trusted and trust needs to be earned. Reliability is under the same category. In decision making one needs to have earned trust so the decision itself can be relied on. If you cannot rely on someone you cannot trust him. Making bad decisions can make people stop trusting you. Respect Respect is something my father has mostly thought me. I am brought up in a way that you should tread people the way you want to be treated. With the right mind you can enjoy everything you do. The mind brings you half the way. Positivity and cheerfulness exudes. It is much easier to be around people with a positive attitude and it is a known fact that if you think positive the outcome will more likely be positive and the other way around. Life is too short to vast much of it in something you are not going to like or have fun doing. Don’t decide that a decision will be bad before you make it! Consideration Living in a dormitory as a teenager thought me to be considerate. Having 2 siblings also thought me that if you are not considerate, many things can go wrong. When making decisions you need to consider everyone effected. You cannot just think about yourself. Sometimes you even have to make decisions solely with other people´s interest in mind. Efficiency I have learned through competitive sports that you cannot get anywhere if you are not hard-working. Efficiency is important when following up your decisions.
