At first glance it seems it would be equally as beneficial for adolescents to have a cell phone to help parents stay in contact and keep track of them, but with a closer look at the negative effects that a cell phone can cause to a teen’s health, behavior, and education, it becomes clear that the possible detriments far outweigh any conveniences that a cell phone may offer. The most obvious threats that come along with cell phone use are the physical risks. Young adults feel they are impervious to danger and take chances with texting and driving. In Amy Novotney’s Dangerous Distraction, she discusses some of the various studies done on the effects of using a cell phone while driving. These studies show how conversing uses different cognitive skills than other activities and takes up a human brain’s “bandwidth” (Novotney).
I can almost guarantee you that without awareness of this issue these numbers will continue to rise. So believe me when I say it can wait. Figure 2: This figure above also provided exceptional facts to the risks teens and young drivers are subject to when stepping behind the wheel of a motor vehicle with a cell phone. I don’t want to use these facts to scare people but to inform them that anything can happen to anyone and that no one is invincible. These small details may seem boring but if this paper can help change someone’s mind to stop using the phone while driving imagine how many lives alone one person can
If society and the laws are so against drinking and driving, why would they more then willingly allow and/or partake in an action that can be twice as deadly. If drinking and driving were legal, it wouldn’t be seen as such a vastly negative thing. If cell phones were made illegal while operating a motor vehicle and the law was actually enforced society would respect and abide the law. However, people just seem to sort of pass it off as nothing, because there are no legal consequences. The man accused of killing a 13-year-old boy in a hit-and-run in Taunton told police he was behind the wheel typing a text message on his cellphone when he lost control of the sport utility vehicle and hit what he thought was a mailbox, a prosecutor said today in
Yes, true but if we gun owners are responsible gun owner, and we do the right thing we can stop guns from reaching the streets. In the end, a sensible approach to gun violence would include prohibitions of all assault type weapons, more regulation of handguns, and working to make sure federal, state, and local have the tools to enforce the laws relating to firearms. I don’t know if gun control would have prevented the tragedies that took place in our nation, but I do believe that a fear of gun control will prevent us from understanding them. Gun ownership is a type of culture, and talking about whether gun control is right or wrong requires us to acknowledge this. We have to first admit that gun ownership changes a person.
People who prefer cell phones often have very different lifestyles than people who prefer landlines. As you decide whether to switch to a cell, ask yourself: Do you want to be in the phone book? If so, you’ll need a landline. Do you want to be easy to reach? Many people prefer to use cell phones because it allows them to be available to family and clients even when they’re traveling.
Compared to the rest of the country, Detroit had 4.8 times the number of foreclosures (2007 in Detroit was brutal, more than 113,889 homes had filed or were about to file for foreclose. (3). During this time period, more arsons have been reported. Click the link below to find out why arsons and foreclosures go hand in hand. Bibliography 2.Martelle, Scott (March 27th, 2011).
Though the board cannot enact regulations itself, its suggestions are taken serious by lawmakers. Many states have some sort of regulation dealing with cell phone use while driving, be it a ban on texting or the requirement of hands free equipment. However, this recommendation exceeds those measures, calling for a prohibition of all usage except with emergency situations (Sneed
Drunk driving is the leading cause of death for people from the age of six to thirty-three years old (Curran, 1). One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime (MADD, 1). Everyday thirty-six people in the United States die due to the crashes and approximately 700 more are injured in car crashes that involve alcohol-impaired drivers. This year, 10,839 people will die in drunk-driving crashes; one every fifty minutes (MADD, 1). “Cracking down on those who take drugs or drink and then drive is a year round commitment for Warwickshire and West Mercia.”- West Mercia Police.
The criminals will not hesitate to bring harm or death. This is where owning and having a gun is mandatory. This law was design to keep gun away from criminals but it keep guns at least temporary from the law abiding citizen. This is just one of the many reasons I am against Gun control. The proponents for banning guns, and the defensive use of a gun, cannot show any proof of taking banning guns will slow the crime rate with tighter gun laws.
Florida Ban While Texting Law penalizes your license but you do not receive a ticket for it. Laws like this should be abolished, as well as the freedom to use your phone at a traffic stop or jam. In the state of Florida, they even have laws for motorcyclists. They are allowed to listen to music and use cellphones at certain times when on the motorcycle. The laws that are currently enforced in Florida are not necessarily serving a purpose to the people because accident rates are the same as well as deaths from distracted driving.
