In today's world, when people go out with their families or friends, they are looking at their phones most of the time. The cell phone has changed the way people communicate with each other. Before modern technology, if you wanted to talk to someone, you would have to walk up to them in person. Now with a cell phone, they can just shoot a text message to someone, go on social media or call the person. When talking about cell phones, people would only think of the beneficial things that it brings. Although cell phones have so many benefits, I still believe that cell phones are a threat to our safety, our communication skills, and our education. First, people are so busy with their lives that they might find the difficulty of managing all the essential responsibilities that they have to do within a day. The U.S Department of Transportation is a federal department that concerned with transportation based in Washington, DC. According to the number of vehicle crash deaths in 2015 “Texas rose 7 percent last year to 3,464, slightly higher than the national rise. One in 10 driving fatalities in 2015 were caused by some kind of distraction” (qtd. in Lozado). Many states passed laws that ban drivers from using cell phones while driving to prevent all the crashes from happening. Our government created a law to protect our safety, and to ensure that our rights not taken away by other people. There are still some irresponsible drivers that are not obeying the cell phones law and feel the need to break the law just because they don’t like it in the first place. They assume that they can handle the use of their cell phone while at the wheel, but there is still a small chance of them ending up in a fatality that takes someone else life’s away.
