The idea of a predictable and unpredictable life events involves generalisation. For some people issues like divorce or redundancy may be predictable, but other people may not have expected to be divorced or lose their job. Predictable life changes One event that is often predicted is when our children start school/nursery. There will be positive learning from this experience as the child will then learn to socialise with other children and make new friendships with them. The child will learn to share toys and develop a better vocabulary by listening to others talking.
Early Childhood (2 to 3 years): Autonomy versus shame and doubt . Children begin to assert their independence, by walking away from their mother, picking which toy to play with, and making choices about what they like to wear, to eat, etc. If children in this stage are encouraged and supported in their increased independence, they become more confident and secure in their own ability to survive in the world. Children are put into groups in order to give them the best learning potential and for their learning to be appropriate for their age and level of understanding. Some children can be easily distracted, so would work better in a smaller group with adult supervision to keep them on task and encouragement them to keep focused. Potential issues that may arise in group learning could be that some children may take over the group and always answer before others, which in turn not all children in the group get to put their opinions, idea's or views across. It could cause ineffective communication between the group if a few are not understanding the task or some may be shy and introvert. Due to the nature of working in teams, children can sometimes find that they are not working effectively, which negatively impacts on their learning, and their ability to progress.
It can prevent children taking more drastic action like self-harming or suicide and can send a message to the bullies that what they’re doing is not working. If children are resilient they will be able to cope better with problems, they will have better health and they will be happier and more fulfilled. They will also be less likely to develop emotional problems like depression or anxiety. To get children to become resilient - to rely on themselves, they've got to believe that they are capable of doing this - how can adults help them? We as the adults have got to take children seriously, listen to them, make them feel that they are important, encourage children to try things out for themselves (you start with young children, by being close by, so they know there is an adult there if they need them - this often gives them more confidence to try things).
It is very important for children to have good mental and physical well being if a child is painfully shy and see others forming friendships- they may become distracted in lesson times due to the worry of not making friends. Ensuring a child is physically well is also important a child’s diet can effect how they perform in the class room, ensuring exercise is implemented to promote healthy living is important.
