For example, there were no longer any engineers left who knew how to build or maintain aqueducts. This meant that when these structures broke they couldn’t be fixed, and so over time there was less provision for clean water. The local population used the stone from the bath houses and other structures to build their own homes as there was less emphasis on public health. The new rulers of Britain did not think it was as important as the Romans had. By 1350 there were some quite serious public health problems in towns, where the lack of fresh water and drainage was a problem which caused the water to be contaminated by other sources and was not healthy to drink.
Despite its imperfections, the Articles were able to provide the Colonies ability to conduct diplomacy and a sense of colonial unity. However it lacked many aspects to make a strong governmental organization. One of which is, the inability to regulate currency. During the Revolution, many colonies lacked any form of effective currency and as a result they developed their own state currency. Over time the currency lost its value due to inflation which devastated colonial economies.
The Articles of Confederation – DBQ The Articles of Confederation failed to provide proper leadership and government to the United States economically, politically, and socially. The Confederation’s lack of control over their states led to disarray and confusion among trade and taxes. There was also an issue convincing state officials to participate in the government as well as settling disputes between the states and even other countries. The Articles of Confederation had problems getting a hold on their economic situation. The nation was quite poor from the Revolution and had loans from the French that it was unable to pay back.
Colonists were provided with even more reason to practice their religion and continue their work in America for a better, more liberated life. England's success at colonizing, what would become the United States, was due in large part to its use of charter companies. Charter companies were groups of stockholders, usually merchants and wealthy land owners, who sought personal economic gain. While the private sector financed the companies, the King provided each project with a charter conferring economic rights as well as political authority. The colonies generally did not show quick profits.
The first settlers on this land were foreigners who came to improve their condition and escape oppression just as the immigrants of these days and times are also making an effort to do. Nichols states that “by abundant observation man … is improved and brought to its highest perfection by an intermingling of blood and qualities of various races. “ (20). America is predominating to other countries because of the various ethnicities that make up her population. Since America was founded by immigrants, which proves that it should be equally diverse land.
In fact, many people were disturbed by the impact it was having on our society. The carefree environment made many question what type of culture was America becoming. “From barbaric entertainment, they saw an emerging barbaric new culture” (Kasson 96). James Huncker was not a extreme conservative man. He “ranged freely over music, literature, art, and other subjects,” but could not agree with what was taking place at Coney Island.
A negative impact that 9/11 has had is the effect it has had on the economy and also with the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thus the increase in security levels have made citizens feel safer about living in the United States of
Immigrants that is who is responsible for founding this country. Italian explorers Amerigo Vespucci and Christopher Columbus were the first of the outsiders to set foot on the North American continent. Waves of immigration have caused this country to prosper through the good times as well as the bad times, from the first colonists to the first states, we owe a lot to immigrants. Immigrants have given this country a sense of heritage, and from values that were carried over from the “old countries” which is what the values of today are based upon. People immigrate to a different land for many different reasons.
The movement of Christianity had become popular for immigrants to migrate from Europe to America with the opportunities to abandon current religious groups. A sense of freedom of religion and economic gains had filled other countries townspeople with hopes and dreams for a better life. This ‘meant an opportunity to strip away the corruptions of Europe, to join Christian faith with liberating aspects of American experience.’ In this era the townspeople were tired of being forced to fight regarding religious and political beliefs. America provided space that gave the churches “religious breathing room”. It gave Christian groups the opportunities to develop their own religious visions and beliefs to create a congregation.
Though America may not treat immigrants as badly as other countries we should welcome them with open arms. Many immigrants say the same thing when asked the question, “Why did you choose to come to America?” Their answer is often that America is said to have more opportunities. My Aunt once told me that people would tell her that the roads were paved with gold. These immigrants truly believe that by bringing their families to America they would be able to provide better lives for them. In the case of some immigrants there may be more opportunities in America for them, but because of the immigration laws they are stuck with unfair and unjust low paying jobs.
