In the book “RAW” and Mean Girls, fitting in is shown quite often. Brett from “RAW” follows his identity at the beginning of the book and further into the book he changes his identity and attitude after falling in love. Fitting in is also shown in Mean Girls. A girl move from Africa and finds it hard to fit in with a wide variety of groups.A person’s attitude can affect their ability to fit in. Brett does not follow the rules to fit in. Brett’s attitude is getting him into more trouble. There are certain rules he has to follow. He rejects the rules throughout the book. This makes it harder for him to fit in. Rosalind Wiseman demonstrates fitting in very well in the book Mean Girls. “She thinks she’s gonna have a party and not invite me?” is a quote from the book and movie. In the book this is seen as a rhetorical question and also a speech. Cady the main character has a party and does not invite the most popular girl in the school, it explains that Cady is popular enough that she fits in perfect. Fitting in is shaped by popularity in Mean girls. | In the poem refugee a numerous amount of techniques were used. Refugee involved a person from Asia. He found out that his identity was not welcome in the new country. The poem use’s juxtaposition which contrasts the racial slang of “Slope” against the colloquial of friend. In mean girls the school Cady goes to is North Shore. After reading you soon realize how race shapes North Shore’s cliques, as Janis tours Cady around the cafeteria she takes a notice of the different groups: “Asian Nerds”, “Cool Asians”, “The Plastics”, and “The Blacks.” Refugee is a small poem but has plenty of language techniques. Jane Belfield shows how race is a matter in refugee. “To be the target of this racist wit?” is a rhetorical question used in refugee. It offends the poor person and he does not like it.
