Distance Learning vs. Traditional One

Do you think distance learning is better than traditional classroom learning? Distance education or distance learning aiming to deliver teaching by means of postal services to students who are not physically present in a traditional classroom dates to at least as early as the 19th century. Thanks to the Internet nowadays we are witnessing distance learning boom. I don’t believe, however, that traditional classroom learning will be completely replaced by distance learning. First of all, I am not sure that it is correct to say what method of teaching is better. To my mind , both have their advantages and disadvantages. For example, distance learning is advantageous in that one can study from home. It is also a very good , if not the only , way to get a higher education for disabled people . Besides, with distance learning one does not need to quit his or her job which is especially important in case adult students have families or some responsibilities. Distance learning is also faster and convenient for those who are above 25 years . This is because they find it challenging to go back to class to learn. But others including me, on the contrary, will find it disadvantageous not to have fellow students and not to able to communicate with new friends. On the other hand, distance learning demands that students should have the following qualities: purposefulness, self-discipline, diligence, self-motivation. Some students find it difficult to study regularly without being controlled by a traditional teacher. One more benefit about distance learning is that it is much cheaper than attending the instituition. This is so because all the materials are digital, professors are not required to be sitting in a classroom. But as for me, I would prefer to listen to a professor’s lecture in a classroom.
