Although the Socratic seminar and the novel left many questions unanswered for me, it made me understand more why things are they way they are in the healthcare and scientific research industries. It made me look more closely at the specific details health care professional do in their line of work. In society, money is the key to getting things to happen. It is inferred by the book that informed consent and bioethics are not as important as the appropriation of funds for research. I can tell that this idea is a huge controversy among different individuals.
His main purpose in this essay is for people to not be so hard on the doctors, because it’s a very complicated process. The audience for this article can be for people in a waiting room in a hospital, John Hopkins alumni, and/or people with at least a college education. The reason it’s for at least a college education is because he uses
Lastly, the issues of senior leaders not spend enough time mentoring younger leaders (Grazier, 2005). He states that an important part of his career came from his association with mentors and he truly learned and grew because of them. The solutions proposed by Spaeth emphasize on the importance of hiring individual sentering healthcare having sufficient financial insight so they are not learning finances on the job and can concentrate mainly in relations with people. He accentuates that leaders are individuals who are born as leaders because their personality allows them to relate well with others and encourage others to get the job done. But, then states leadership qualities can be taught as well.
Regulatory Issue: Glenwood Gardens Independent Living Facility As an independent living facility of Brookdale Senior Living Inc., Glenwood Gardens enforces a company policy in which the corporate organization holds no liability of an employee getting hurt while performing medical care (Kern County Fire Department, 2013). Instead, protocol for medical emergencies require employees to call 911 and sit with residents of medical necessity until EMS arrives (Kern County Fire Department, 2013). This company policy prevents employees from performing any medical care or lifesaving technique, which increases the risk of fatality. Colleen is the employee at Glenwood Gardens who refused to follow dispatcher (Halvorson) instructions and perform CPR on a resident who collapsed on the facilities dining room floor (Kern County Fire Department, 2013). She calmly remains on the phone waiting for EMS; however, makes no attempt to find anyone else to
The idea of a nurse staying within her scope of practice seems to have been overlooked when, though not trained in anesthesia, they were asked to manage patients during surgical procedures. There also did not appear to be much role delineation other than in the surgical units, whatever needed to be done was done by whoever was available at the time. This is the ultimate example of a team approach, and was obviously successful given the amount of soldiers either returned to their respective units to continue fighting or sent home, honorably discharged as purple-heart recipients. There are similarities of the same type of team approach in today’s workplace, but to expect the same urgency and dedication may not be realistic. There may not be the same emotional attachment to the 90 year old geriatric hip fracture as there is to the 22 year old private with a traumatic below knee amputation.
This plan has coinsurance, higher costs, and deductibles along with preauthorization for certain procedures and preventative care is normally not covered. With Health maintenance organization (HMO) plans, the patient(s) can only see a provider that is in the network. A referral to see any other doctor besides the primary care physician will be needed in most cases because the PCP is the manager of the patient’s
Many things you would think would be common sense, but I believe you can never have too much information on how to prevent an accident in a workplace or stay safe. Following OSHA standards and regulations I can learn about the proper storage, disposal and preparation of medication. I am studying to be a Psychologist, even though I may not have to handle medication myself, I still think it is important to learn more than what just my job may entail. There is a lot to learn and read about on OSHA standards so I am sure I will never learn it all, but at least I know I can get great information by looking up OSHA standards and
This is done when they are able to grasp the business affairs that the corporation deals with. Each organization must exercise their power of sight in ethics in many different ways. An organization may not be able to notice that by making some offerings of a few dollars in purchasing new health care equipment and a special supply of medicine that a patient needs is worth sacrificing the ethics and cuts the patient process. There are also some organizations that may find ways not to buy the equipment and supply
The pharmacist job is primarily based in management and decision making, which is very important, but the technician does the work that makes the pharmacy run. The thing I was most surprised to learn was that a technician can authorize refill orders without the help of the pharmacist. Doing this assignment really helped me understand what role I will be playing in the pharmacy as a technician and as, hopefully, a pharmacist. I didn’t truly understand what the specific roles of each member of the pharmacy staff where until this assignment but now I feel like I do. Bibliography About Pharmacy Technicians.
When I was advised that we were to attend an interprofessional collaboration conference I really was not looking forward to participating, and I was also not aware of what to expect from this experience. It was quite intimidating having to find the table I was allocated and then sit with 7 other people training in different professions. The purpose of the conference was for us to learn the importance of collaborative working between different professionals, and to learn about their roles and how we as professionals can communicate effectively to provide a service. Roy and Watts (2001) suggests that providing good healthcare through collaborative working is a necessity for health care to function. Helen Martin and Ian Fletcher spoke to us initially
