Describe the relative merits of internal verses external recruitment. What type of business strategies might call for internal recruitment? What factors might lead to a firm to decide to switch from internal to external recruitment? Human resource recruitment is one of the most important aspects of a functioning organization. It is the way in which the supply of quality applicants for future vacant positions is found. If an organization is not successful in this, it can be detrimental to their business practices. With this in mind, there are numerous ways to recruit potential candidates for future openings within an organization, internal and external recruitment embody the two types of recruitment strategies where organizations can obtain their pool of potential new hires. According to, BusinessDictionary.com, internal recruitment is, “the assessment of an employer’s current staff to ascertain if any current employees are sufficiently skilled or qualified to perform required job vacancies. When a business engages in internal recruitment, a current employee might be assigned to the new position by giving them either a promotion or an internal transfer” (www.businessdictionary.com). An organization that partakes in internal recruiting is referred to as promoting from within where employees have a general sense that when they are hired for a lower-level position, the possibility of promotion and advancement is high. In the textbook for Human Resource Management, it states that, “a survey of MBA students found that this was their top consideration when evaluating a company” (Noe, et.al., 2013, p. 213). This means that companies need to consider this as a possibility when recruiting for the best possible applicant pool.
